From my understanding the only guaranteed housing is OOS Freshman and Sophomores because they are now required to love on campus for the first 2 yrs.
When we received the financial aid information for my D who is an admitted incoming freshman and my S who will be a junior ADT, waiting to hear, both said no on campus housing.
If you are an incoming Junior you will need to look for housing off campus. If you are coming with your car then I would try to venture into a slightly wider area for housing. The area around the school isnāt the best and because of the school housing immediately around will be higher.
I am still pending for Business with an ADT and local, as well. Have a 3.93. Called the office and they said it can take until the end of the month before they send out all decisions. Just want to know alreadyā¦
@teambyerline - Also, quite a few upper division students, with or without cars, rent off-campus apartments that are adjacent to a Green Line Trolley station or on bus route 115. The apartments at the Grossmont Center stop (as well as the ones on Alvarado and near Mission Valley) are popular with students. Getting to campus on the Green Line trolley is a breeze, and they can even shop at the campus Trader Joeās. Some of the apartments are great, some not so much.
Totally agree with everyone here on where to find housing. Iām a local and I always thought the area around SDSU is honestly ghetto af (I mean, maybe not Mexican border ghetto, but letās just say an undesirable area). Mission Valley is pricey but a good option thatās relatively close and a little safer/kept up. Kearny Mesa and Clairemont are safe and work too. The neighborhood of San Carlos, the closest to SDSU of what Iāve listed, is a good pick for east county.
Info that might help when looking for housing near SDSU: The City of San Diego is divided into communities. SDSU is located in a community called the College Area. There are a lot of āmini dormsā - originally single detached residences that were converted in order to house several students at a time surrounding SDSU. Just like in all all parts of San Diego, there are some good areas around SDSU, and then some not-so-great areas. Turn one direction on College Avenue, youāll find several tougher neighborhoods, turn in the other direction and youāll find Del Cerro and some million dollar homes, or at the very least high six figure ones. Collwood (up Montezuma) is fine. Off Montezuma Rd, west of campus, is Alvarado Estates, a gated neighborhood with homes in the millions, so no one is going to be renting there. Del Cerro has some apartments (on bus route 115), but there are more as you turn onto Navajo Road and get into San Carlos. Somewhat close options in the eastern part of the county would be the apartments on Baltimore Drive in La Mesa, off of Lake Murray, and Parkway Drive, as well as Alterra & Pravada apartments next to Grossmont. There are areas of La Mesa I wouldnāt rent. It will definitely take some time and research to find the best options available.
Does anyone know how it works if you get denied with an ADT. I know you had to choose a back up school because one of the CSUās has to take you, so how does that work?
For anyone following, my predicament appears to have been resolved. There was an issue with my CC holding my ADT verification, spent the day getting to the bottom of the issue. Was told I should see a green checkmark within a day or two in my SDSU portal.
