SDSU or USF?

My major would be business. Parents are trying to keep me close with USF but my heart is set on SDSU. Give me some pros and cons to both..more pros to SDSU so I can make a case to my parents.

You can set aside tuition toward an MBA?

SDSU has a great international business program and in general it does have a better business program. OOS tuition at SDSU isn’t too bad for a public university at $17-18K a year.

However, it’s still $10K+ more a year in tuition, not including substantial travel cost.

I’m sure you’ll love either school…Good Luck!

SDSU is way cheaper, and if you want to go distance shouldn’t be what’s holding you back. I mean, If you like near San Fran, San Diego isn’t that far away in the grand scheme of things. It’s still in state. I would say don’t let your parents choose your college for you, you’ll not have as good of a time and you’ll blame them for it. As for convincing them, just straight up say “I am the one going to college and I will choose for myself.”

haha…I was thinking University of South Florida :)

Yeah trust me…I don’t want them to pick. But they say they pay so they pick…I don’t really have a choice. I can’t go without them helping me financially so in their minds they pick. Im just trying to convince them of SDSU.

SDSU all of the way.

OP, what you specify what school you mean by “USF”? I was thinking University of South Florida too… :)

I also thought University of South Florida (East/South bias, I guess)

Sorry guys! Its USFCA University of San Francisco in California!

Honestly - your parents’ preference to USF truly confuses me. I can only assume that their choice for you is truly based on proximity. As a professional college consultant, I would advise your family to strongly consider SDSU.

College financial planning for a business major today MUST include the cost of an MBA. So why choose USFCA which will cost 3x as much as a B.A. from SDSU when you could save money to spend on a top-tier MBA program down the road?

If you look at business school rankings, SDSU is ranked MUCH higher than USFCA. Now… rankings actually do not mean a whole lot to me personally in the grand scheme of things… but it is a point you could bring up to your parents.

As others note above, SDSU has a very good business program and is a fraction of the cost …
What about USF is appealing to your parents?

USFCA would actually only be a few more thousand than SDSU. They gave my great financial aid. So my parents want to keep me close for almost the same price.

SDSU is a better school and would lead you to better prospects for you.
Is it because USFCA is Catholic and they’d rather see you at a Catholic college?
Would you be commuting if you went to USFCA or would you be living on campus too?
