SDSU Transfer

Denied :’(

Major: History
AA-T: Yes
GPA: 3.49
NOT LOCAL (from Irvine Valley College, Orange County)
Major Prep: Yes
Golden 4: Yes (2 A’s, 1 B, 1 C)

Other Schools: CSULB (Accepted), CSUF (Accepted), CSULA (Accepted), CSUSM (Accepted), UCSB (Pending), UCI (Pending), UCLA (Pending), UCSD (Pending), SDSU (Denied).

I knew I had a slim to no chance of getting accepted given that I was not local. About the appeal process, I had no sort of extenuating circumstance. Is there any chance I can still attend SDSU? This is my dream school and I won’t give up on trying even if it means attending a CC (Community College) in San Diego and apply in Fall '17. Talking about CC’s, will I be admitted if I do attend a CC in San Diego and then transfer to SDSU? Will I have to complete a new and different AAT degree different from my AAT degree I have in History? Please any help will be greatly appreciated.

PS Congrats for those who got admitted, especially out of local admits.

@Ethnomedicine I remember reading that you need to have taken a certain amount of units at a San Diego community college for you to receive priority. I think it said more than half of your units or something. You’ll have to check on their website though. If it were me I would just go ahead and send your appeal to SDSU and hope for the best, and enroll at one of the schools you’ve been accepted to, as there’s no guarantee that you’ll be accepted to SDSU next year (or to any of the other schools either). Waiting until next year might just put you behind an additional year and could possibly prevent you from attending your second choice school. But if you’re in no rush to transfer and you think you can raise your GPA before next fall then you could always try re-applying next year. I’m waiting on a decision for my appeal myself but have already enrolled at Sonoma State and I’m pretty set on going there. The more information I find out about SDSU the more I realize how screwed up their admissions department is. Best of luck whatever you choose!

@Ethnomedicine I also saw that someone posted their denial on one of the other forums who was a history major. They had a 3.86 GPA and they’re a local San Diego applicant. Just goes to show how ridiculously competitive SDSU is

got a denied letter due to missed a speech class. GPA is 4.0 from CC college and 4.2 in high school. Anyone know
if I can talk to SDSU I’ll take Speech class this summer then they will accept?

@Brian1990 You might want to talk to Admissions about that. From what I have heard, the Golden 4 (Speech, Writing 1 and 2, and Math) have to be completed before the end of Spring prior to transferring.

@Brian 1990: @Ethnomedicine is correct that you need to finish the Golden 4 by spring. This is pretty much true for all CSU’s if you are planning to transfer in.

@Gumbymom Hi. You seem to know about the transfer process to SDSU. Do you think you can help me out? I was denied admission to SDSU because, as you know, out of local CC transfer students (even with an ADT) rarely get considered for admission. My question is how can I be admitted into SDSU? Can I complete a new AAT/AST Degree at a local San Diego Community College? I heard from someone else in a different thread that I have to have half or more than half of my transferable units completed at local CC’s in San Diego to get priority and guaranteed admission to SDSU. Is this true? I have 70 CSU transferable units with a GPA of 3.49 from Orange County Community Colleges. Given that I complete 18 more units to acquire a new AAT, will I be considered a local admit with priority registration? Second, I am unaware of the appeal process and what counts as an extreme circumstance. Finally, if I do decide in the few upcoming weeks to attend another 4 year institution, can I transfer out of a different CSU or UC to SDSU after one or two years? Will the transfer be guaranteed if I come from the UC system. Sorry for the long post. It is just that SDSU is my dream school and I won’t give up on trying to enroll at the institution. It is next to the border and luckily with the career path I have planned out if I do end up going to SDSU, I will help out the economically disadvantaged Hispanic population in San Diego and across the border.

PS I wrote this at around midnight so there might be a few grammatical and spelling errors.

@Ethnomedicine: The information you were given about having more than half of your transferable units completed at a SDSU CCC is correct. This is the only way that I know of that gives you the best chances for an acceptance.

For the appeal process to work, usually a mistake has to be made by SDSU in reviewing your application such as overlooking a required document that was received or by your CCC that did not send the required ADT verification.

If you do decide to attend another 4 year institution, there is no guarantee that you will be accepted regardless of where you are transferring from. Sorry but there is no easy way to get into SDSU as a transfer other than attend a local SD CCC as stated above and confirmed by other posters.

This was posted on last year’s Transfer Thread:::::

SDSU gives priority to AS-T grads from Mesa, City, and Miramar. Any other school will be in a different pool. Once the local community college students with AS-T have been given priority and the spots have been filled by SDSU, then they will move on the students who are local without AS-T and then move up to LA county, and then however many spots are left after that then they will move up to NorCAL which by then are rarely given any opportunity because the city of San Diego is already flooded with students from the CC’s and from Mexico.
