CSU capped GPA= 4.33
SAT= 1160 (M-610, EBRW-550)
EI= 4624
Information posted on CC indicates he will likely be admitted into Bio-Sciences major for Fall 2019.
With that EI, what is the chance that SDSU will invite him to join the Honors Program?
I know he can apply, even after Jan 15, but acceptance is based on space available.
Appreciate any insight you can provide.
thank you.
My current freshman son had a lower EI last year and was admitted to SDSU in Dec’18 and invited to apply to WHC. He applied and was admitted and is enjoying his freshman year in WHC. I don’t believe you have to wait to be invited to apply, I think anyone can apply, at least that is how it was last year. Happy to answer any questions you might have!
it seems for this year, EI of 4700/4800 and up have been accepted early and invited to apply to the WHC. it looks like my S will be one of the ones that will have to apply to the WHC, which he is, and hopefully he will hear from Admissions around mid-February.
Thank you.
Wow…getting harder and harder to get into State, that’s a big change in just one year. Good luck to your son! My son is enjoying WHC, but even without the honors program he would be loving his time at SDSU.
@Jonnybruce14: Your son has nothing to lose by applying to the Honor’s college and the perks are worth it if he gets accepted. Since most schools do accept up to 3 times as many students than actually enroll, there should be spots available in the Honor’s college for the later applicants.
I think a lot kids with high stats will be accepted into a higher ranked school and may end up somewhere else. My older S went through the Honors program at UCSB and it was absolutely worth the extra effort because of the perks, including early registration. I heard SDSU eliminated early registration, but the perks are still pretty nice from what i read. He is definitely applying to the WHC even though he didn’t get an invite.
They do not offer early registration any longer, but lots of other perks to make it worthwhile. Good luck!
My mistake since I was going off the perks when my son was interested a few years ago. I still think it is worthwhile and SDSU does give Freshman registration priority for Fall Semester. Also if you are an in-coming Freshman with AP/IB credits, these will help with registration further down the line since registration times are determined by class level. AP/IB credits will allow you to reach a higher class level faster. My son came in with 38 AP credits so by end of Freshman Fall Semester, he was at Sophomore level in terms of registration priority.
Thank you. Good information to know.
I should clarify that Freshman get registration priority if they attend Orientation. If they fail to attend Freshman orientation, they are the last to register.
