SDSU

Hey guys just had a few questions as I try to make a decision of where I’m going to college. First of all, at San Diego State, how often is there something to do? I’m a very social person and I will be going into Greek Life. Second of all, is there any off campus dining? And lastly, how is the maya and olmeca halls? My biggest concerns right now is I really want a social college experience, and basically everything that makes a college experience good. Thanks all!

Younger son is a current Freshman at SDSU. There is always something to do on campus. The Aztec parents association puts on special events for the students throughout the year such as a Beach Party on campus, Mardi Gras, Dances, Basketball viewing parties etc… If you are looking into Greek Life, there are always parties if you are a member. Several restaurants within walking distance of campus such as Trujillo Taco’s and Thai food. You can take the Green Line trolley to Mission Valley Center or Fashion Valley Mall where there are numerous restaurants or even into Old Town or the Gas Lamp quarter. My son is in the Olmeca dorms in the RLC Emerging leaders floor and has made some great friends and both dorms are very sociable. Of course, you have the football games at Qualcomm and the amazing Basketball games at Viejas Arena. Also there are many concerts at the open air theatre and Viejas. I’m sure you will love it as much as he does.

Thank you so much for the input! I really appreciate it. I assume your son likes it a lot? Aside from off campus places where do most students get food? And do students often go to gas lamp? I love that area!

His meal plan is 5 days a week for on-campus food. Favorites are Chipotle, Oggies and The Habit. Weekends, he usually goes off campus to either the Malls or Old town. He went to the Gas Lamp quarter once, but once he turns 21, I am sure he will be a more frequent visitor. It really depends upon how much free time you have on weekends. He is a CS major, so this semester there has been alot of programming projects taking up his time. I am sure you will have a great college experience at SDSU. Go Aztecs!!!
