So i was looking at SDSU’s page and they said they calculate GPA using 10th-12th grades i thought cal states don’t use 12th grade i’m confused now. Also what are the stats needed to get into SDSU like guaranteed for like a finance major?does it differ for comp sci or econ?
bump
@Gumbymom any input seeing as your son goes to SDSU
Depends, are you local?
“3.83 high school GPA
26 ACT (not including writing)
1169 SAT reasoning (critical reading and math)”
As stated on an SDSU webpage. This page also states they do take 10-12th grades recieved.
I’m in state yes but when they say 10th through 12th I’m thinking they mean summer after ninth to summer after 11th and they count this as 12th I guess which is what the UC’s also do however I don’t think they count actual 12th grade courses I just need confirmation on this
I’ll help out. I was just admitted these last months and am planning to enroll this fall.
From what I’ve gathered, SDSU calculates your GPA from the 10th-11th grades when considering your admittance. If you’re admitted, then your 12th grade grades come into play to keep that admittance. SDSU’s acceptances are “provisional” acceptances, meaning you must meet certain requirements in order to enroll the following fall. These include not getting F’s or withdrawals in your classes, maintaining your GPA, meeting deadlines, etc. This is where your senior grades are really important.
Now as for the stats needed to get into your desired major. Note that a guarantee isn’t possible, if you look in this year’s “Class of 2020 Acceptances/Rejections” thread, there were people with high marks that were not accepted to SDSU or waitlisted. I’m not saying this to scare you, but you can never have a guarantee, just a high chance. To best gauge your chances at SDSU, your Eligibility Index (EI) will help you. You can calculate it here: http://arweb.sdsu.edu/es/admissions/freshmen/apply/eligibility-index.html (You need your GPA and test scores).
A competitive EI is around 4100+ using the SAT for basically any major except for nursing which I believe is a 4500+. I didn’t use the ACT calculations, sorry I can’t help you there.
Anyway, just keep your grades up and test scores high. I’m sure you’ll get into SDSU if you work hard in class and study hard for the tests.
EDIT: I noticed you asked if it differed from an Econ major to a Comp Sci major. The answer is, yes. SDSU’s majors are impacted, meaning there are more applicants than available spots in the major. Check this out: https://asir.sdsu.edu/Pages/applications-by-major.aspx
@BucketsUCSC: For the CSU GPA, the CSU Mentor website states 10-12th grades but it usually only includes usually grades taken through the summer before Senior year. Some schools are on the quarter system and do post grades prior to the application deadline of November 30, so it is possible to have some of your 12th grades included in the GPA calculation but most schools are on semester or only post semester grades on the transcript past the Nov 30 deadline.
As @MayJuneJuly stated, SDSU uses the EI to rank applicants by major. An SAT EI of 4100+ is competitive along with an ACT EI of 1050+. Local applicants and OOS applicants have posted lower EI thresholds, so it is possible to get an acceptance if you fall into these 2 categories. For last year, I saw Nursing applicants with EI’s as low as 4300 SAT and 1100 ACT but there is no guarantee of admission. Much depends upon the # of applicants for each major, especially the popular/competitive majors such as Biology/Psychology/CS/Engineering.
Senior grades basically maintain your provisional admission so see you need to keep up your grades. When my younger son SIR’d, his mid year transcript was requested.
Just do your best and Good Luck.
@MayJuneJuly SDSU’s requirement is to maintain senior grades like same gap as soph plus junior
One more question I’m just really stressed if I take a class at community college over the summer and its Justine semester of that class is it one sem or two sems in the gap calculation
