Sea Year Ending

To all you "B" split parents --

Sea Year is almost over and you will be seeing your Mid soon. I am heading to JFK on Tuesday.

We got some good news at 12:06 AM Friday when our Mid called from the SAT phone on the ship as they headed into Kuwait. Quickest phone call ever "-- Pick us up at JFK BA Flight ---- London at 7:40 PM Tuesday. This phone costs a fortune. See Ya!"

Enjoy your time with them before they head back!!

Tuesday! Can I go with you? I'm ready to see a Mid. :D Jamz goes from LA back to the academy on Nov 4th so its no home for him until Thanksgiving. Sigh.

You poor Plebes aren't going to know a soul on campus come Nov. :D

LFWB gets in at 1715 Tuesday at JFK going up to get him and take him to KP. He has to go to KP and turn in his Sea Project then will be taking the train home on Wed.

As Sea Year comes to an end, I will miss the emails about the travels and descriptions of what life is like at sea. Here's a portion of an email I received this morning. I believe he's going to miss it out there:

"It's a wonderful night. I love this month -- it's crisp, cool, not a
lot of wind.. The stars are out -- and boy, let me tell you -- if
you've never seen the stars from the sea... You've never seen them
at -all-... Its pretty amazing. It's like someone just took really bright white paint and threw it up in the sky. Really cool out here."

Talked to CW this afternoon. He will be heading home on the 29th. I can't wait to see him. Sure seems like he's been gone forever. He has thoroughly enjoyed being at sea and can hardly wait to go back out in the spring.

As I am currently in Tokyo's Narita Airport on my way home, I must say... it has been a fun, tiring and amazing 128 days of sea time going around the world and I can't wait to get back home. To all parents out there: your kid will have a lot of fun out at sea and to all the Mids: enjoy it and do your sea project. That's been beaten into your head enough, but do it. And have fun... get to shore when you can, that may be hard on some ships (like mine) but try to do as much as possible.

Welcome back k314sig09! I can't wait for you to get home either because there are special people who have missed you so very much. Travel safe & enjoy your few days of break. They are well deserved. Congrats on finishing up this first part of your sea year.

He's Baaaack!

She's home safe and sound and even bearing gifts -- She brought me a one of a kind hand knotted rug for the Living Room -- Unbelievably beautiful! Sea Project complete and beautified (her words).

Great Captains, Mates and Engineers -- all true professionals who were more than happy to share their knowledge. She is looking forward to her sport season and if you can believe it "Ring Fittings".

I hope everyone enjoys seeing their long lost children and reconnecting before we send them back to the crucible for more purification and knowledge.

"more purification" that is a great way to articulate the character development of KP.

Hi All,

Here is a book that my daughter came across and found to be invaluable in her travels. She said she would recommend it to any midshipmen especially chapters 6-10 and the one on Jet Lag (15 hour flights or more can run havoc with your system)

Healthy Travel: Don't Travel without It
Michael P. Zimring, MD and Lisa Iannucci
ISBN: 1-59120-149-7
Paperback (light) $14.95

Good Luck to all 2008 A Parents and 2009 A Parents as they prepare to send their kids out on the world campus. It is an awesome experience!!

Thanks 8kidsmom! 100% positive I'm getting this book for a Xmas present. There are some yucky things out there & I think my kid keeps picking them up every time he goes to Tiawan. Coughing & hacking at the moment. Perhaps he can learn to take better care with this book.

Hug those Mids!! Glad they're home safely!

At the risk of sounding OCD, simply washing your hands frequently will greatly reduce some of the viral illnesses we pick up in travel. It doesn't hurt to keep a small bottle of purell in your back pack. Our hands touch places that countless other people touch when we travel
