Just wondering if anyone here will be applying to SEAP. I am a high school freshman and this will be my first time applying. If anyone has had experience with SEAP, it would be very much appreciated if you could share your experiences, advice, etc.
Hi, I just sent in my application last night. How’d yours go? This is my second time applying. I didn’t get in last year but my application this year was much better than last. What labs did you apply to? I applied to two in MD.
Mine was okay. I don’t have high hopes since this is my first year applying (high school freshman), but I thought it was worth a shot. I applied to one in AZ and a backup in CA.
@Arnkim , I was a Freshman last year, I was pretty proud of my essays, they each reached the character max and I had anyone who was willing to help edit them, I think English is my strongest subject, so my writing ability is what Im thinking got me in
@buggy2017 Congrats on last year! Where were you interning and about when did you hear back last year for interviews? Just wondering so I don’t keep my hopes up for too long.
@buggy2017 Wow congrats! I didn’t apply this year, but I’m thinking about trying next year. Was your lab in your area/state? If not, how did you fix living arrangements, etc? Just wondering because there is no lab in my area
Did anyone hear anything back yet? I emailed the general email, they said results would come by February, but not sure when the first labs would respond.
If it would help you guys I’ll give you an overview of everything @michigox and @bluegrl … OKAY SO! For one of your questions, the lab was about 20-30 (depended on the day) minute drive meaning my whole family was really great and able to drive me! My mom, dad, and older sister all took turns/alternated. But I def know that SEAP does not provide housing so that’s up to u plus commute. It’s paid so you can always use part of that for transportation, it’s worth it! I’m not gonna say where I interned for privacy reasons, but it’s one of the most popular/applied to locations, but contrary to what you would think, that meant they accepted more. 40 to my knowledge. And also, I never had to do an interview lmao. The scientist who wanted me contacted me personally and extended an offer! And something u guys shouldn’t stress about is you don’t have to know someone at the lab (sure it helps) but you don’t have to know someone to get the internship. I used to look on this website before I got it bc I was nervous and wanted advice and everyone said it was a lost cause if u don’t know someone! NOT TRUE! I made my own contacts. Good luck, and don’t worry if u don’t get it. Try again and apply for other things. I’ll be happy to answer any other questions
I did this last year. It is totally worth applying to and a great thing to put on your college applications and resume!
For anyone wondering: I applied during my junior year and my essays weren’t the most artfully crafted things. I don’t think that matters as much to them as the content does. For me, I was on my high school robotics team and talked in depth about that and some other science curricular I’m involved in. I also milked the fact that I want to be an engineering and I like problem solving and working with my hands etc
@roshe789 I’m still waiting for a response from the labs I applied to, too. I remember one of the labs I applied to emailed me that said they would notify me of their decisions by February. Then again, it’s the 31st now so I don’t know if this is going to happen. Has anyone else heard back yet?
