What’s up with the search function? It used to be that when I typed in a user screenname, I would get a lot of hits for posts they had posted.
Now, it seems, I’m taken to nothing, and to proceed, I have to do the “advance function” questions.
Why?

@thumper1 It might be something with the code. Also, I’ve stopped receiving notifications whatsoever since 3 today
EDIT: nevermind, the notifications are back
I noticed it too @thumper1 , but as you pointed out, the advanced search works fine.
And my notifications have also been inconsistent for the past couple of days.
Ive never needed or wanted the advance function. Why the change…
@thumper1, I’ll look into this and get back. Thanks!
Guys, we have indeed recently updated the Search Function so that now you can search through the entire website (i.e. articles and forum posts). If you want to search through the forums only, please select the Search Forum or the Advanced Forum Search options. The default search option is set on the entire website.
Ok…so how do i get this to just “search forum”. That’s in a drop down…but the drop down does nothing…at all. It’s not like you can switch to “search forum”. I just tried. Twice.
That looks like a bug that needs fixing. I’ve open a ticket with the tech team. In the meantime, please use the Advanced Forum Search option, which seems to be working fine. Thanks!
The search function isn’t working…at all.
You used to be able to put in key words, and the like, and poof, a bunch of threads would come up. Now, really all you can do is use the advance search to find posts from a Screenname.
Frankly…that’s seldom what I need. I’m usually looking for info about a college, or some couple of items like housing at a college…or whatever.
This search function now is beyond pathetic.
@thumper1, you can use the Advanced Search Function for searching the forums the way you want to. We have a ticket open with the dev team to fix the ability to select Search Forum directly in the dropdown menu.
The advanced function requires an author. Otherwise…you get NOTHING in the search.
Nothing.
I was trying to find a thread that contained info about a topic…but I couldn’t use key words. Needed the thread title. Hello? If I had the thread title, I probably wouldn’t need the search function.
Is there some reason why you can’t get anywhere without an author?
@CCadmin_Sorin something is VERY wrong with this search and advanced search function. It’s almost like you folks don’t want anyone to do a search!
Advanced does not require author. In “Search” I enter “need blind” and then “Date within” “1 week” of “today” and I get the right answers.
I’m using an IPad. I don’t have any place “search”spot except the one at the top of the regular page. When I use that, it takes me to the advanced search…and there is no “search” box there.
There is a place for Author, title and tag. That’s it.
Where did you enter those words?
If I enter something in the title…I DO get threads with that in the title. Sometimes.
@thumper1 On an iPad, general the search box is the box above where it says “title.”
Thanks @skieurope
And remarkably…it worked!!
OK. New issue. At the moment, it looks like the search is not returning results prior to 6/22/2018 @CCadmin_Sorin
As of June 27, the search function is COMPLETELY broken. Basic search. Advanced Forum Search. Search Entire Site. Pulldown menu. Magnifying glass. NOTHING works.
For example: I selected Advanced Forum Search from the pulldown menu top right. I entered “beloit” on the first line (with the triangle and magnifying glass). Title: blank. Author: blank. Forum: (All). Checked subcatagories and archived. Tags [what are those?] blank. What to search: discussions, questions, comments, answers. Date: within 1 year of today.
“No results for beloit.”
Tried other searches.
“No results for reed.” I got only one hit for “kenyon”. One hit for “carleton”. One hit for “olaf”. One hit for “grinnell”. TWO (wow!) hits for “macalester”.
Okay, it take that back, it’s not completely broken. I get three pages of hits for “harvard”. Four pages of “stanford”.
Is there some anti-LAC conspiracy going on here?
Even advanced search isn’t working for me today. Having skieurope’s experience in #15.
OK, now it looks like the search is only giving results from today.
Guys, thanks for reporting! I’ve added your comments to the ticket we have open with the tech team.
