Searching for appropriate target/reach schools.

MY STATS:
G.P.A: 3.14 --I really consider my G.P.A as an inaccurate measure of my current abilities due to the significant difference between averaged freshmen+sophomore grades and those of my junior year; averaged freshmen and sophomore report card grade is around 79 and my junior grades weighted is approximately 101. This was due to my high absences and an anxiety disorder which was aptly addressed in my autobiography and college essay. I'm honestly quite concerned about how colleges will view this; I don't know how this difference will be considered :-S

I'm currently a senior at a extremely large NYC public high school (~1000 students per grade) I'm dire need of financial aid; my parents divorced and I live with my father and older sister and we can manage to pay ~10k per year without compromising our financial stability.

I haven't found a college that I'm REALLY interested in yet. I know my choices are limited due to my gpa and my lacking test scores, but I have faith that SOMEWHERE OUT THERE is a college fit for me. I would like to go away for and would like to go somewhere thats at least near the city. I prefer small-medium sized universities but am open to attending somewhere big. I also don't have any specific majors in mind so I would like to go someplace where I can explore majors.

On my list so far I have: Fordham, Geneseo, Binghamton, Rutgers, St. Johns, Plattsburgh, Clark Uni, Boston Uni, and Pace. (Not sure if I'm applying to all of them, these are just some I'm mildly-moderately interested in, some of these I'm aware are way beyond my reach.)

Thank you in advance

whats your intended area of study?

What “autobiography” is that? Colleges ask for what they want in their application process, they don’t want extra stuff… Also, you want to be careful about talking to colleges about your anxiety disorder. They are often reluctant to admit students with past mental health issues, as they may recur on campus. It would be best for you to have your Guidance Counselor mention that you had health issues that affected your grades without going into specifics, and write your essay on something else entirely.

congratulations on identifying and treating the AD. I’m going to address your post by suggesting you loosen up your parameters as to what a good college fit is and you do a lot of searching for the right fit college. I know you’re a senior and lacking time, but investing some time in searching for schools that fit you will be time well spent. (Dirty little secret: you will be allowed to continue to walk this earth if you’re not in college come Fall 2015. It’s so true!) I see from your list that you’re not stuck on prestige alone as a criterion. That’s great, but you have a lot of different size colleges in different kinds of settings and they’re all NYC-centric.

Could you suggest to us a college of an ideal size: 2000-5000? 6-12000? 12000-22000? bigger? possible majors? state of residency? have you run the net price calculators and what have they suggested your family will have to pay? how willing are you to move 300 miles from home? 600? 1000? 2000? 3000? Play around a bit with the SuperMatch feature in the column on the left side of this webpage.

Try to answer all my questions.

You need to have the CUNYs on your list.
