Hi, I am looking for colleges with strong art programs, but ones that also have pretty good classes for other departments(I plan to double major in art and another field-not sure which yet). From looking around this is what I have so far:
1. Carnegie Mellon U
2. Darthmouth C
3. New York U
4. Rice U
5. Vassar C
6. Washington U (St. Louis)
7. Yale U

Please tell me if there are any other ones out there, a list of schools like these, or if any of the schools I found don't really have good art programs... thanks!

You and I are in the same boat. : ) I'm interested in art (preferably animation or design related, but gaining a solid studio arts background appeals to me as well) and English.

I think first off you need to identify what kind of art you're interested in, or maybe you just want a broad selection. Art departments vary in their strengths and what they offer, so you'll need to look more closely at these programs.

Rice is good for double majoring as many students do it, but I'm haven't heard much about its art department. I'd like more feedback on Rice as well.

Carnegie Mellon, NYU, and WashU are schools reputable for their art programs as well as excellent academics.

I believe Yale is more well known for its graduate art program.

You don't seem to be interested in art schools, (I'm not either) but you might want to look at some art schools that allow you to take classes at major universities. RISD/Brown and School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston/Tufts come to mind.

I personally am looking at USC, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon, and Syracuse.

I hope some of that helps!

There are lots of posters here far more knowledgable in this area than I am, so you should be getting plenty of feedback soon.

Among the ivy league Brown and Yale particularly stand out.

I would caution, however, that studio arts at all of these schools are focused on traditional media -- painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, print making, architecture. None of these is especially strong in new media or design. For that you would need to go to a large university or an art school.

I live in Cali, so I should add that I am applying to UCLA (and other UCs as safeties). But I prefer to go out of state for college. I never knew about the art school + university class option, so thank you for pointing that out. And it's nice to know I'm not the only person who is looking into this :D

Thank you for the suggestions of LACs momrath, I'll look into all of those.
