Searching for LACs

3.8-9 GPA
2250 SAT (700+ on each)
Rank: 15/300
ECs/Awards: Several clubs & organizations w/ leadership positions. Community Service ~300 hours. X-Country Runner - but this year I'm going to run just local city races. Local/state awards in visual arts. And, I'm not doing as many ECs this year - I'm going to continue working at a bookstore.

Major: Biology

I'd prefer that the college is set in the suburbs and not in the middle-of-nowhere like Grinnell or Kenyon. And, a school in the NE or West Coast would be great. I'm going to rule out places like Reed and Swarthmore and artsy places like Oberlin and other schools like Wesleyan and Smith(extremely-liberal?).

So far, I have Wellesley and Williams.

I'm adding Wellesley because of the [url=http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=60990]PhD production/url, its strength of said program, and because of the program it has with MIT. Also, I haven't visited Wellesley yet (and the same goes for Williams).

For Williams - its having a lot of students participate in sports is a plus and some of the same reasons I mentioned for Wellesley. It doesn't seem to be set in an extremely rigorous atmosphere like Reed, no? (Please clarify this.)

Can anyone suggest any others? And, please declare if they would be reaches/matches/safeties. Thanks!

University of Michigan!!!

Boston College, Cornell, Tufts, Stanford, U of Rochester, Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Brandeis, Pomona, UC Berkeley, UCLA, U of Pennsylvania, UC San Diego

LACs in the NE or West coast that look like they fit your criteria- look into Amherst, Pomona, Claremont-McKenna, Brandeis, Colby. Not sure why you've ruled out Swarthmore, etc. May also want to consider Haverford.

We thought Wellesley was a fine school in many ways, but we got the impression that there were some scheduling issues in practice about the MIT registration thing, lately. You might want to check this aspect out thoroughly if it seems very important to you.

How about Smith?

Holy Cross and Trinity would be good matches.

Drew U; it's science programs are strong and you'd likely get a full ride.

What is LAC?

An LAC is a Liberal Arts College. LACs are known for introducing their students to a wide variety of academic disciplines. Additionally, they are known for offering students more opportunities to interact with professors, as there are typically few or no graduate students.

you ruled out swarthmore?! why would you rule out swarthmoreeeee?

Ah, thank you for all of the suggestions! :)
