^^^^Those comments weren't all directed at you...not here to pick a fight, just trying to express an opinion which some seem adamantly against. Like I said before, I still think renegadeshark has a pretty good chance.

I think most people come here posting chance threads looking for everyone to say they're a shoe in... so I think it's right to be honest and say you're not.

It's a good answer. You're not guaranteed a spot in.. but you're far from out of the game. You're stats are good, very squarely in the middle of Columbia's students. You could have figured that out on your own. At this point, your stats meet what is expected of Columbia students and what's going to separate you from the rest is your personality, passion, writing, etc. Subjective qualities that nobody here can definitively judge.

Good luck.

I'm pretty sure applying with classmates who didn't get in, actually showing up here and living and working with students around campus does give you a knowledge advantage, if after even a year in your college you don't understand, at a basic level, what your college looks for, then I would feel very sorry for you.

Absolutely.

Thanks for the responses guys... and yeah I'm not looking for an ego massage here, I want an honest opinion on what sort of chances I've got. So even if you guys collectively thought that I would have no chance I'd be perfectly fine with that response as you guys [esp the ones already at Columbia] will know about what my chances are a lot better than I will.

And just to clarify, I tried to avoid writing a typical community service letter [i.e. How I improved the lives of some people] and it's more along the lines of my interactions with autistic children and how unique each of the children were.

And yeah I know that my Chemistry and Math SAT IIs kinda suck but my IB predicted for HL Chem is 7 [it's out of 7] and a 6 for HL Math so hopefully those should even it out. In any case, I expected my chance to get in to be quite a bit lower than 1/4 or 1/3 so I'm quite happy with the odds :)
