Columbia is my dream school and i like SEAS

but one of my passion is visual art..painting :)
the other is mathematics
and im ok w/ science
hate literature and history
my dream is either engineer or doctor who paints lol

anyway
i was reading bulletin for SEAS and i don think i can take visual art in SEAS
am i correct??????? i really need to know this...

i like or used to like SEAS best cuz its engineering school thats not entirely focus in math/science and i thought i could still enjoy art....

now im not sure if i want to ED SEAS and searching for other colleges
so help!!

Nope, vis arts classes don’t even count as non-tech requirements. Every couple of years a female seas student has tried to get a petition going to change this (i know the girl who is currently doing it) but nothing ever comes of it.

It’s not to say you can’t take the classes, you just wont get usable credit for them. Which, in the long run, is all that should really matter. No business/grad school/or med school will want you more because your resume says “BS in __ Engineering with Art minor”.

oh…so i’ll be just taking more classess than others :(

more questions
is research paper worth writing during summer?
my mom know one professor and want me to join his research thing
but it’ll be only during this summer
i know many other spent more than a year to write research paper
and i don want to look like im rushing and doing thing just for college right before due date
cuz i heard that doesnt look good in admission

Why not major in math at CC and minor in visual art there. At SEAS, you’d be majoring in applied math, which is a fairly different field, from what I gather…

not really.
a) there will always be the handful of seas ppl that decide to take the vis arts classes
b) most seas kids i know, myself included, overload or are usually at the 18-21 credit range almost every semester which means they are probably taking a course or 2 for fun
