Well, schedule help in general, really. I got the materials for registering for classes today, and I'd appreciate any input on the courses and professors who teach MATH 104, ESE 112, and **PHYS 150/b. The Course Review site is very useful in this, but I find personal experiences to be just as helpful, if not more. So, any current students lurking about who would care to help an incoming-freshman out? :D

Also, some more questions (which might seem kind of stupid):

1.) As a student in SEAS, when should I complete my language requirement?
2.) I know that writing seminars are required, but are the freshman seminars also mandatory for SEAS students? Some kids on the Facebook group said no, and it got me wondering.
3.) How many class should I have per day, on average? I've been messing with the mock schedule maker, and with a certain combination of classes I found I had five in one day. This is kind of a lot, and I haven't even added in the Writing Requirement course.
4.) PHYS 150 shows up twice in one day on the mock schedule...? :O
5.) Not really related to the others, but is the average freshman GPA in SEAS really a 2.7? o___o

Any help with these matters would be greatly appreciated. :)

(Hahaha, spelled schedule wrong. You can see how I got into UPenn. :P)

you have no language requirement. you can take language classes whenever, if ever, you see fit.

no one needs to ever take a freshman seminar. you need to take a writing seminar, but that can be at any time at penn

it depends on your schedule. i had 4 lectures monday and wednesday last semester. you should just try to take 5-5.5 credits.

i never took physics 150, it does have 4 class sections (instead of recitation) and an extra session at 5PM one day for midterm scheduling to guarantee that noone will have a class at the same time.

2.7 sounds correct (i'm not in SEAS btw). most intro science/math classes are curved to a B/B- range. B=3.0, B-=2.7.

agree with venkat, and actually i think the average gpa in seas overall (all 4 classes) is about a 2.8; for freshmen, it's more like a 3.2?

Thanks for the replies! Wow, I am really not used to the college grading scale. B-'s don't exist in high school, I guess. Or at least not mine. A 2.8 GPA = a B is not so bad, if you look at it in terms of letters, I guess, but the numbers still freak me out. Guess I'll have to work pretty hard.

No language requirement? Well, I suppose that's good. I'd still like to take one, but maybe not now, I suppose. I'm still not quite understanding the two classes in one day PHYS 150 thing, though. :(

Any suggestions for professors?
