SEAS to Wharton or CAS

I applied and got in ED into SEAS.

LONG STORY SHORT. I made a mistake.

Now I want to Transfer, to anywhere else in Penn but SEAS

So, I have 2 questions

1) Is it possible to transfer before school starts in 2011?

2)If I transfer, Will I be one year behind all of the people who are normally in that major? in other words, will I be at a big disadvantage?
thanks in advance

bummppppppp

1) I don’t think it would be possible to transfer in before school starts. Penn wants you to do 2 semesters before applying for an internal transfer. Try to maintain a good GPA (3.3+ if you want to do CAS, 3.8+ for Wharton) your freshman year and make sure you meet the course requirements that CAS/Wharton has for transfers.

2) I’m not sure on this one (someone confirm this?), but I think all freshman are taking many of the same introductory courses. Also, a lot of the classes required to transfer will be what people in the other schools are taking. So no, you shouldn’t really be behind.

That said, are you sure you won’t be happy at SEAS? You could always just take classes from the Wharton and CAS if didn’t want to limit yourself to the SEAS curriculum.

Why are you so desperate to transfer? You can double major stuff in a SAS area while in SEAS if there’s something SAS that you want to study.

Also you can take any classes you want regardless of what school you want (except for some upper-level major specific ones and stuff requiring special permission but those don’t apply to you now). So if you just choose classes needed for SEAS now you won’t be behind at all.

And yea you need a minimum of 8 credits to apply for transfer, which typically takes at one year.

I applied to SEAS, LONG STORY. Had a change of heart. No longer want to do engineering. I want to do business. at CAS or Wharton.

So what do I do to get in those schools? Take the pre-reqs and get good grades? Thats it?

You could transfer or pick up a second major in CAS just by taking 8 credits your first year and getting above a B/3.0 average. To transfer to Wharton, you need a 3.8 for your first year. Plus credit for Math 104 and intro Micro/Macro.
