I'm currently studying CS at NSCC and planning to transfer,

I know that my chances of getting into UW-Seattle CSE program is low, so I'm looking for alternative plans. (UW-Tacoma and UW-Bothell and Seattle U)

The problem is, I've heard that UW-Tacoma and UW-Bothell CSS programs aren't accredited yet, is this important for later? To look for a job or going to graduate school?

Also, how competitive is it to get into UW-Bothell CSS and UW-Tacoma CS? (~GPA average, acceptance rate ect.) My current GPA is 3.5

I went to a UW CSE info session last month (maybe it was in October) and it doesn’t sound like the CS program is accredited at UW Seattle. Their EE program is accredited though.

I think the accreditation doesn’t matter as the Seattle dept isn’t. If you don’t get into UW seattle, I’d look into the opportunities for jobs you can get coming out of the different institutions. Also, if you don’t want to leave Seattle proper Seattle University is the way to go. I’m from Bothell, and it is not the city. But I’ve heard UW B does some cool things and there’s a lot of tech firms within walking distance of the campus. Google is opening or just opened a new branch in Bothell, about 2 min away from the campus, and many of the surrounding companies (google included) look to recruit straight from the UWB program.

UW (Seattle) CSE student here. I don’t know a lot about the Tacoma/Bothell programs or how recruiting works there, so I can’t really tell you much without speculating and (probably) giving you wrong information.

However, I have some friends at Seattle U who have gotten internships at places such as Microsoft and Amazon. They said that the program prepares them well for the internships (almost all the people I know have return offers for next summer).

However, if you’re interested in building a start up or having an entrepreneurship career, the culture at SU doesn’t really ‘help.’ I don’t know exactly why, this is just what my friends say. However, I know places such as UPenn, and Stanford is all about cut throat hackathons, competitions, and the atmosphere there is completely different from SU (or UW). For example, if you haven’t started a company at Stanford by junior or senior year, you’re considered “behind.” “Why are you here if you’re just going to work for a place like Microsoft? INNOVATE! Make your own company!” This is coming from many of my friends (as well as fellow interns) who go there. Of course, this isn’t for everyone, so don’t feel pressured to be all startupy. :)

Even if you are interested in making a startup, you should consider that it might be worth it to spend a couple years at a larger company first (just as a learning experience).

I’ve been talking to the UW-Bothell CSS admission, they said that their program is getting more and more competitive. The last winter, they accepted 40% of the applicants, and GPA for programming courses are 3.8 - 4.0…I’m losing hope :(
