SEC football schedule relased today..9am

SEC 2012 football schedule will be released at 9 am this morning and a former football player from Missouri, who is a good friend and sits in an advisory position for the football team, contacted us last week and again yesterday to let us know that Alabama is slated to travel to Mizzou on 10-13-12 (let’s hope he’s correct!!!). Gotta say… we have already booked rooms for DD and her sorority sisters and DD’s boyfriend and fraternity brothers. We are VERY excited here in the Midwest to welcome the Crimson Tide!!! He also said that Bama would play Tennessee on the road next year and in his meetings… lots of speculation that it will be Bama, LSU and Georgia in the mix again next year. DH graduated from Mizzou both BS and JD…he will be wearing Gold that day…I am threatening to wear Crimson…he is threatening to leave me home in KC…thank goodness Columbia is only 90 minutes away!!! One thing the Tigers fans are whining about is that the SEC does not allow you to exit the football game at half time and re-enter. The Mizzou crowd loves to leave, tailgate some more and then go back in a few minutes into the third quarter. There’s already a lot of scrambling on DH’s part as well as others in our tailgate group to secure extra GA tixs so they can continue their tradition. If any of y’all need suggestions on food or hotels give us a holler…we lived in Columbia while DH was in school. It’s a great college town and any of you who plan to travel will have a great time!!! Counting down the hours and minutes…!!! Roll Tide!!!

Here’s the schedule:

Any idea how the student ticket packages will work?

idk for sure.

maybe pkg a - games 1,3,5,7 and pkg b - games 2,4,6

looks to me like the home schedule stinks. freshman will likely be able to pick up tickets in the “other” package fairly easily.

I’m with Mike. A snoozer of a schedule.

Dump the BCS, set up a true playoff system, and replace the cupcakes on the schedule with SEC East teams. Wouldn’t it be more fun to have, say, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida coming into Bryant-Denny? I know why they (i.e. all the major powers) schedule the Western Carolinas, but I find it about as compelling as going to a Yankees game and watching them play their AA farm club.

Those “cupcakes” are money makers for both teams…that’s why they’re in the schedule.

Bama has “done the math” and by dumping the “home and home” games and just going with having non-conf cupcakes at BD Stadium, Bama makes MILLIONS and the cupcake team gets to take home about $1M for its own desperate athletic budget. Note that we don’t play the cupcakes at THEIR homes…always at B-D…cuz that’s where the money’s at.

Keep in mind that Bama athletics funds a whole bunch of important things …including some merit scholarships…but also all the money-draining women’s sports. We don’t want to lose the merit scholarships and we don’t want the UA general fund budget having to fund the money-pit sports.

Like I said, I know why they schedule them. It’s just not very compelling sport.

True…it’s not always exciting. However, the Georgia Southern game proved to be a challenge with its triple option offense. (LSU does an option offense, so perhaps they plan on doing similar for BCS? If so, Bama has now experienced it a bit.)

But these are times for Bama to try different plays and different players in different positions in a real game setting with little fear of loss.

It’s hard for the coaches to get the players “mentally up” to face the tough opponents week after week. The team gets mentally fatigued watching films and learning the opponents plays each week. These cupcakes kind of serve as extra “bye” weeks in a way. Gives the coaches more time to prepare for the tougher teams.

There are 12 games…7 are home…4 of these are conference games. 4 games are away and 1 is “neutral”. That’s not bad at all. You may just not like the mix of which SEC games are away this year. I think having TAMU and Auburn at home are great. I agree that having the MS schools at home isn’t great, but that’s going to happen.

There’s no way that Bama would play SEC-east teams during those times. At best, they might do a Penn State or similar. But, again, Bama did the math on that one and complained that it only made $200k when it played PSU last Sept. That’s why they’re dumping “home and home”.

Every cupcake wants to play Bama now. They know they’ll get TV coverage and they know they’ll go home with a big check. They don’t care how bad the score ends up.

Nick’s take: [Saban Reacts to Schedule](http://bleacherreport.com/tb/bcPX8)

I am super excited we’ll be playing Florida Atlantic, even though my favorite coach is retiring this year. And wow, we get to play Texas A&M already! I would love to go to that game. Do you think we’ll get to play Mizzou at home the following year, or is this a one year thing?

I wish we would play UGA. Lots of Bulldog fans in the South, and I think it would have a lot of fans from UGA come for the game. Would be a great atmosphere.

The excitement is building here in NOLA as the game draws near. They are actually selling Bama gear at the Sports Avenue in the mall. Local grocery is selling BCS t shirts with both teams helmets, so you know what everybody in my family got for Christmas this year.

what is a “home and home” game?

Doubtful that Texas A&M and Auburn will be in the same half package. I don’t know if the two Mississippi schools are placed in the half package or not, but I would guess they are not to even the packages out. Thus I would predict one package to be WKU, Mississippi State and Auburn and the other to be FAU, Ole Miss, Western Carolina and A&M.

m2ck is using home and home game to refer to contracted out of conference games where two teams play each other 2 years in a row, once at each team’s home stadium. For example, Bama played Penn State in Tuscaloosa in 2010 and the two teams played again in Happy Valley in 2011. Since the contracts give a lot of benefits to the home team, the visiting team gets a cash payout. Since the contracts are the same for both years, the cash payments cancel each other out.

thanks seatide.

i don’t expect the a&m game to be anything special. a&m kind of stinks.
