Hey - I was wondering what anyone knows about this? If someone isn't admitted to their first choice major, are they considered for it - and how often is someone actually admitted to their second choice?

I think I applied first choice for Biological Sciences (Dornslife) and Global Health (Keck), so would the fact that they're in two different schools make anything different?

If the two majors are in different schools at USC, they will be looked at by both sets of admissions folks. In some cases, different supplements are required or auditions/interviews. Each school will independently make a list of approved admittees. If you were selected to both–you’ll be notified of your admission only to your first choice. If you were on the admitted list of only one of your choices, that’s where you’ll be placed. For any
school other than Dornsife, your file will then be reviewed by the main USC admissions to make sure the student meets their criteria.

Many suggest that Dornsife is not quite as competitive for admissions as some of USC’s other schools (Thornton, School of Cinematic Arts, Viterbi, etc.) For some who only apply to one of the most selective schools’ majors without listing a second choice, they can still be admitted to Dornsife as undeclared major.
