"Second Look" Financial Aid

Hey guys, I'm an accepted EA applicant that applied for financial aid. I received a generous estimate but recently I received an email saying that as part of their second, final analysis I needed to send in my Tax Returns (and my parents') ASAP as well as a statement listing the sources of untaxed income (which my parents have a small amount of).

Did anyone else receive this email? Financial aid is the only reason I would be able to go to UChicago and I really hope nothing went wrong. We filled it out completely honestly... but I'm really starting to worry haha....

You are supposed to send 2012 tax returns and w-2s by April 15 and FAFSA by Feb 1. See their instructions at
https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/costs/apply/instructions.shtml

No need to worry! The estimate you received was based on 2011 tax forms, but the aid office needs to make decisions based on the most recent information (i.e. 2012 tax forms). Unless your family’s income increased significantly or your family’s situation has changed, you shouldn’t lose aid money.

Ok thanks, and yolochka, I’m well aware. The point of this post was asking why, instead of being able to wait until April 15th, I have to sent this in “as soon as possible”.

You probably want to have their final offer sooner than April 15 to be able to compare with other FA packages.

Anyone had any experience about UofC net price calculator?

I entered pretty much the same set of numbers in Jan and recently and got huge difference on grants.

It seems they calculator takes home value and equity into consideration with much larger weights now than early this year.
