"Second Most Competitive Applicant Pool in Ivy League History"

Article in today's Columbia Spectator....

Note to all who are checking acceptance via FedEx tracking....it says in the article that letters AND packages are being sent...

http://www.columbiaspectator.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2006/03/30/442ba502bf26c?in_archive=1

I just called and nothing is coming to my house. They could find nothing for my address, so I assumed I am rejected now you point to this article saying that letters are coming fedex also. Is this true?

yeah. nothing is coming to my house too. i don't know. we'll just find out by 5 pm I guess.

I am sick to my stomach. I have to find something to keep me away from this board. This waiting is excruciating. I don't know how I am going to make it through the day. GAH!

Does "packages and envelopes" suggest that all decisions were mailed FedEx? Is there any chance that a rejection/waitlist would weigh 2 pounds?

A 2 pound package is definitely an acceptance. If FedEx doesn't have one for you, I'm afraid you have not been offerred a place.

Congrats to all who were accepted. To the rest of you -- college is what YOU make of it. I guarantee that next August or September you won't even remember Colulmbia.

Packages and envelopes means Fedex for accepts and USPS for rejects.

I got mine, I'm in.

congratulations!

What time did it come?

sorry, i asked this is another thread, but is fedex completely separate from usps? do fedex packages ONLY come by fedex trucks?

Yes Fedex comes by their trucks

thanks...i'm too scared to call fedex and my regular mail has already come...so i guess i'm just waiting now.

Hmmm a 9.6% acceptance rate... -_- Not feeling too good about this, although the last part of that article "Columbia continued to review students’ SAT scores primarily based on a 1,600 point scale, focusing on the Critical Reading and Math sections" helps me a bit o;

Yale has a 8.6% this year:

what they heck do they need a two pound package for?

if it is 1.1lbs, they have to pay for 2 lbs. There is lots of paperwork.

What are the odds looking like for waitlisted students?

yay i'm one of the most competitive applicant pool.

that really flatters me lol.

Aww, shucks. Thanks. I'm flattered.

I actually first found out about my acceptance via e-mail from Dean Colombo, but I applied early. The package arrived the next day.

Not really sure how much stock to put into these numbers. To me, such a "competitive pool" probably boiled down to luck and split hairs. Can't wait to see who'll be joining me in the fall, though.
