Has anyone who was placed into the "second review" received a response yet?

yup, got an acceptance letter a few days ago. i didn't write them back the "why is tcnj your first choice college" email thing if you're wondering too.

Ok. So i got an e-mail a while back stating that my app. was under a 2nd review and that they would have to look at it again. NOW I got this e-mail::

Dear Applicant,

We would like to thank you for your recent application to The College
of New Jersey. Your academic credentials are very impressive, and we
believe that you would be a welcomed addition to our incoming Class of
2011.

Unfortunately, the academic major in which you have expressed interest
has been inundated with highly qualified applicants. The Biology
department is experiencing a tremendous surge in popularity this year, with
the strongest applicant pool of any of our programs. While we would
like to admit every qualified candidate who desires Biology as their
major, TCNJ cannot adequately accommodate such a large number of students
in this department. In fact, it would be a disservice to our students
to admit everyone into Biology, as it would take away from some of the
things that make TCNJ so popular: small classes; a high degree of
faculty-student interaction; and a complete absence of teaching assistants.

Therefore, we would like to offer you an opportunity to select a
different academic program. If you are still interested in The College of
New Jersey and wish to select a new major, please e-mail ...........as soon as possible, but no later than Friday,
March 23rd.
We recognize that many of are considering careers in medicine. Please
be assured that The College of New Jersey enjoys an 86% placement rate
to medical school, regardless of the student?s academic major. As
with law school, medical programs are accepting more and more candidates
from programs outside of the traditional sciences. Medical school will
still be a feasible option for you outside of the Biology department.

We feel it is only fair that someone of your high academic standing be
made aware of the present situation with our Biology applicants. Thank
you for your attention to this matter. Best wishes for the remainder
of your senior year.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. ........................................

It's me again. What does that mean. I called admissions and the lady told me i wasn't in but the e-mail says otherwise. i.e "welcomed addition to.." The lady said that when i picked my other major they would look at my app. again and then tell me. I made sure to ask her when and she said no later than APRIL 1st. That's good and all but if i send it in now i only have 8 days. If i send it in on the deadline date i have even less. I really don't think that they could re-evaluate me in 8 days when it had taken them about 4 months before. Are they letting me down gently or something? Did anyone else get this??

I don't think they are letting you down gently. I think if you pick a less popular major, you will be able to get in. Additionally, i think there is a possibility that they can tell you by April 1st. They probably have less applications now and are almost done evaluating applications. Since they are not as busy, they can prbly evaluate ppl more quickly. Also, they already processed the incoming mail and reviewed your file. Since they don't have to read your app all over again, I think they can make the decision quickly.

I have a concern that is slightly related. They make it seem like biology is a very popular major, and they can't take any more biology students. Do you think that this means freshman can't switch their major choices easily? I originally applied for the school of engineering. However, now I want to switch into the school of sciences before I begin freshman year. Do you think I will have a problem if I want to switch into a more populated major?

I don't know. I am freaking out because i sent in an e-mail saying i'll switch to Psyh. i am wondering if that is too crowded as well.... Did u get that e-mail as well???

Rest assured, once you are at TCNJ, it is very simple to switch into Biology. I have several friends, including my roommate and my girlfriend, who both transferred into the Biology program after entering under different majors. My roommate entered as a Psych major, and my girlfriend entered as an Open Option Science major. There are few requirements to make the switch...you need to take a few bio courses, do well in them, and get a professor to write you a letter of recommendation, and then you're in. So don't let this keep you from coming to TCNJ!

Is is just as easy to switch majors between colleges? My D was admitted into the College of Educaiton but wants to change to Math or possibly Open Option. I was told that she could take care of this at orientation when she chose her schedule. Hopefully it's just that simple.
