I'm looking into Walnut Hill, Interlochen and Idyllwild. As most of you know, I'm currently a sophomore. I was going to apply for junior year, except things came up and I was unable. This includes taking the PSAT, SAT, and SSAT.

I'm still highly interested in attending, but I'm not too fond of just going for senior year, and am still apprehensive about repeating a year. Would it be too insane to try applying to any of the mentioned schools for second semester, being a hefty financial aid needs student?

My gpa is weak. It doesn't, however, reflect my work ethic or intelligence. It merely reflects some difficult times I'm working through. A few of my teachers are currently aware of these challenges, (One of them being I will have next year also.) so, on the birght side recomendations shouldn't suffer too badly.

I'm interested in the music and creative writing programs.

Any advice, or would it just be best to repeat junior year?

I’m not sure what the schools policies are on second semester admissions, but I’m guessing it would be rare, especially for a student in need of FA. My suggestion would be to apply when most people are, which means you should repeat junior year if that’s what you intend to do if you get in. I wasn’t aware that you could apply for second semester since they do try to fill their quota during regular admission dates, not to mention the possibility of waitlists.

I would definitely just repeat Junior year. A 2-year experience at Interlochen (Once again, the strongest academically of the arts boarding schools with 39 presidential scholars [more than any HADES GCM]). It also has the best music program. Oh, and the creative writing building at Interlochen is the nicest, newest one on campus.

So: 1) Go to Interlochen 2) Repeat Junior year.

Have you emailed and asked? I don’t think it’s too late to apply for your junior year either… (sometimes people who go to the camp apply for the academy then)

Also, when I applied I didn’t take the SSAT/PSAT/SAT, but was still accepted into my senior year for this coming September (I’m taking my SAT in May though), but I did have good recs and ecs…

(I’m talking about Interlochen btw)

I don’t think my GPA is high enough for Interlochen is the deal breaker. (I’ll still apply regardless) It’s been a tough two years for me.

The reason why I didn’t want to apply rolling for next year is FA. When I called Interlochen a month or so ago they told me to hurry up because FA was going quickly.

Plus one more semester/year to strengthen my skills wouldn’t be too bad of a deal.
