Second thoughts about BME/Engineering

Hi, so I was admitted to the BME program at Hopkins ED, because I really believe it is something I would enjoy studying. But after looking at the outlook for jobs after college even with a masters in BME, I’ve been having second thoughts. I don’t plan on going to med school (cost is kinda scary) and I first joined BME because I thought I would be able to work in research and development. But after learning about how hard it is to get a job with a BME degree when Physics and MechE majors are still capable of getting the same jobs as well as other jobs outside the med field, I’ve started thinking about switching majors.

I don’t know if I’d be locked into BME because I applied ED, but I haven’t come across anything that suggests that I’d be stuck. I started doing some research on ChemBE, because that was another field that I thought I would enjoy, and found that the outlook seems decent for chemical engineers and that I could still work in R&D in the med field. I’ve looked at the course program for ChemBE and I think it would still be awesome to study it. JHU is pretty well-known for both programs (more so for BME) and I would be happy with a masters in either major.
Overall, I have two questions: How hard would it be to transfer from BME into ChemBE? And also, what’s the outlook like for ChemBE jobs?

I would appreciate any advice you all would be willing to give! Thanks!

From my understanding, transferring out of BME is not difficult, but transferring into it is very hard. You could definitely switch out of BME, but don’t do this lightly because chances are that you would not be able to switch back in.
