I'm taking Pre-Calculus in school, and I scored a 640 Math on the May SAT. I signed up for Math I for June 7. Now I'm worried that I should have signed up for II instead. Will it look less impressive if I took Math 1 instead of 2? I'm aiming for the Ivies. I'm more into the humanities, so math/science is not my thing. I'm also taking Latin Subject Test on the same date, and Spanish w/Listening in November.

I say if you're in Pre-Calc right now and aiming for Ivys, take Math Level II. I've heard that colleges don't really regard Math I as being all that great (especially Ivy-League schools). Plus, the curve on Math I is a lot harder. I think by missing one, you already go down to a 770 but in Math II you can miss up to five and still be at a 800.

anhtimmy doesn't speak on behalf of every university in the Ivy League.

Math I is a perfectly acceptable examination at any high caliber college. However, if you are excelling in Pre Calculus, then you ought to take Math II, simply because it is a more difficult test, and moreover because it is easy to score very high on the test.

Yes, sak09 mentioned the curves being harsher on Math I than on II.

I wouldn't say I'm excelling at PreCalc, but I understand most of the concepts...so if I do decide to switch to II, do I just get there and tell them, and they'll give me a different test without charging extra?

Yes, do exactly that. And, no they won't charge extra.
However, if you decide to take BOTH and add a second test, you'll get a bill for 8 dollars in the mail for each additional test you take.

Okay, but based on my practice test scores...and the fact that I'm aiming for Ivies...what should my plan of action be, besides reviewing the materials I covered over the last 2 years and taking more practice tests?
