After being initially deferred from UMich, a reality check has hit me but I definately have taken a lot more time into researching this school which has only reassured my want to attend here. Lately I have been really reading into the Residential College, mainly for French. I think that I could really gain a lot from the intense language program, but I am also worried that it may be too late now since I have been deferred already. What should I do? Also, if I am not accepted into the RC, can I just go into LSA still or if I change my mind about the RC is it easy to get out of it? Thanks!!

What do your semester grades look like?

I'm not exactly sure yet, they come out this week but this is what it's looking like:
French IV: A
AP Calc: B-
AP Physics: A
Literature and Film: A
French Tutor: CR (It's a credit/no credit class)
and finally the useless required class:
Microsoft Office: A.
The calc grade I am afraid is going to kill me, especially since it was only a semester long class and I have no way to redeem myself in it again.

i got a B- in AP Calc this semester too..i never anticipated how hard the class will be...i think umich will take in consideration that Calc is an AP class and judging from your other grades i think u have a good chance

blah..typo.. would be^

might also depend on which calc. AB or BC?

I got a B in Calc BC and B- in AP Physics. Will this hurt me?

Chummer, Bs in AP Physics and AP Calculus BC is certainly not going to hurt your chances. Yoiu are taking university level classes and getting Bs. It won't help you, but it won't hurt you either.

AP Calculus, at least BC, I know can be killer. I'm not taking it, but I know a lot of people at my high school (which is the second best in NYC) who had consistently above 95 averages in honors math and now are getting grades in the B range in that class. So there are many strong math students who have a tough time pulling off an A in the course. Good luck!

BC can be hard. A lot of otherwise straight A kids in my class are getting B range. The first few chapters killed me, but as we started getting into applications, the stuff I was learning in AP physics at the same time helped a lot and vice versa.

So overall, I wouldn't stress too much about a couple of B's in solid AP classes like physics or calc bc. The important thing is that you learn the stuff, if you plan on testing out of a few university credits. Don't want to stumble in math (which I can tell you is a thoroughly nasty experience, from a period of preemp-senioritis in junior year)

Thanks for the input

Still though it worries me because U of M might still look down on the lower B for my calc grade. Doesn't make it any better either when a girl at my school got deferred with a 30 ACT and a 3.9UMich GPA either today. You guys are right though, it is better to learn the stuff and come out of the class with the knowledge even if we did get a B.
