Of the 25 schools I applied to, 21 were private. Of those 21, 19 have the explicit policy of sending secondary evaluations to every single candidate.

It's about money. Most schools will gladly take your secondary fee even if you are not qualified. In fact, I've heard stories of applicants getting rejected the day after their check clears.

The UC's and a few private schools do screen. UCSF probably does the most rigorous screening as it only sends secondaries to 1/4 of the students applying.

On the topic of screening, just out of curiousity, does Cornell screen?

No .

Hardest part of the application process so far: the waiting. Med schools are showing me no love.

"norcalguy:
If your GPA is 3.7+ and your MCAT score is 35+ (ie. you think you have a serious shot at Harvard, JHU, etc.) forget Jefferson, Drexel, George Washington, and Georgetown. They won't bother interviewing you since they'll think, "No way this guy is going to come to our school. He'll get in somewhere more prestigious."

Interview invite from GWU came today. Not sure if I should be happy with the invitation or offended that GWU doesn't think I can get into a better school ;)

congrats ncg, that's awesome

Congrats. :) I should've said that YMMV.

Two things I love about the GWU interview day:

1) It's a $4 metro ride away. After spending $500 on an interview last week and another $300 on an interview next week, it's always nice to be able to interview for under 10 bucks.

2) The interviews day begins later (around 9:45). I am definitely NOT a morning person. Heck, by 9:45 last weekend, I was finishing up my third interview at another med school.

dang ncg, you're on a roll haha. but the real question is: did you rock those interviews? any acceptances? good luck!

I don't think I did awesomely on my first interview (maybe a 6/10). I forsee a waitlist coming up. I still have 2 more before October 15th so my goal would be to get one acceptance on that date.

Well good luck on those and congrats on getting those interviews.

Schools are not permitted to release acceptances prior to Oct. 15.

ah, but at least you don't have to wait till april (and only get a month to decide where you want to go) like we all did for undergrad haha

Why more undergraduate schools don't roll is beyond me.
