Secret Societies/Frats

The more I read the more it seems as if the only way to really break into the secret society scene at Penn is to be an incredibly wealthy international student. What is the rush scene like? Are most people accepted to fraternities? I only ask this because I fear that my being from Mississippi would negatively impact my social life. Any comments?

you'll definitely find people to party with and hang out with. There are different kinds of frats - the party ones, the rich ones, the nerdy ones, the asian ones, the average person ones, etc. For rush you just go around to various frats for free food, strippers, and alcohol. Rush is an awesome time. The secret societies are a bit different. Essentially you have to either be a wealthy international, a wealthy new yorker, a wealthy new englander, or a wealthy californian.

You'll definitely have a great social life at penn. It kicks ass. Plus if you dont want to join a frat the frats are not like at other universities. At penn they don't really restrict the people coming in like at most universities, plus the alcohol is free.

thanks for the info bern700. I have another, slightly unrelated, question. Is the ED situation as effective as I hear it is? It seems like your chances increase more than at other schools. Any truth to this? Thanks.

I don't even go to Penn yet, and I've already done some pretty fun social things at penn with guys I know that go there.
