Are there any secret societies at michigan? Any info if so and if there is, how prevalent?

If they're secret, we can't post about them, now can we?

There are a couple of "secret societies" at Michigan. The main ones are Michigamua (now called Order of Angell I believe) and Adara. The former is an all men's society and the latter is an all women

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigamua

But Michigan is not as much into Secret societies as the Virginia flagship state schools (UVa and W&M) or Yale.

By the way, I don't think people can actually sign up. I think the societies approach candidates on their own.

Some quick clarification:

The Order of Angell (formerly known as Michigamua) is not an all men's society. It used to be that way up until 2000, but in 2000 they began to tap women. Phoenix (formerly known as Adara) used to be all women's but they too became coed.

Everything else Alexandre clarified is correct, except his list was incomplete--Michigan has at least two other invitation-only private societies--Vulcan (Engineering, coed) and The Constellation Society (B-School Women).

aren't secret societies just filled with a bunch of extreme idiots that believe in whacked things

***? where does that idea even come from

The "secret societies" at Michigan are comprised of people who are influential on campus. Included in this group are football standouts, other awesome athletes, the IFC president, the LSA/SG president, etc etc
