I have received an appointment and will most likely take it, but I was wondering besides the police record check, what is the security clearance? I heard government agencies call your neighbors, relatives, and teachers?

Haha… I’ve never heard that before.

Yeah, they interview the persons you put down as references. Word of caution: Make sure you warn them that someone from the government will contact them to conduct an interview about you. You don’t want them going into a panic, wondering “what the heck is the government asking me about him/her for? I hope I’m / they’re not in trouble!”

Any officer, regardless of commisioning source, needs to have a Secret security clearance, so yeah, when I was a plebe you had to fill out 9 million quiestions from the security clearance forums, they may interivew the people you put down as references, and in some cases, a special agent may actually come to the academy to interview you. Big thing is to just tell the truth. I have friends that admited to doing drugs in high school, had a special agent interview them, and they still got their clearance and graduated. People make mistakes, so dont get all wrapped around the axel about small mistakes you may have made int he past.

Yep, my son is going through this right now. He said the form is 13 pages!

When do you get it? Does it come with the official appointment document?

The form for the police record check comes with a packet of forms and information after you accept your appointment. The security clearance isn’t done until you are a plebe.
