Hi I am trying to apply for summer classes at HCC and I am left with few available options with profs named “staff”. But why do some of the instructors named staff? Does that mean they did not find a teacher yet? Does that mean I should not register for that class?
You can register for the class. What “staff” means depends on the college. Perhaps the dept has not assigned the instructor, or it’s a visiting instructor that is not yet set up in the system, or it is a TA, among other reasons.
I assume it means the particular professor has not been assigned yet. Professors are normally paid for 9 months of the year…they have to sign up to teach summer courses. Sometimes professors conduct their research in the summer.
At the CC I taught at for several years all of us that were part time were staff and they never assigned us until the week before school started. Then I ended up with a lot of adds into my class! It was almost always full. So it is probably they are waiting to assign profs and then TAs visitors or part time depending on the college
