Seeking acceptance into Stanford.

My name is juan gonzalez and i would like to know if i have any chances at all at being admitted into Stanford University. As it stands, Stanford seems far from reach to me, but i refuse to give up. I have a low gpa, 3.50 in a weighted scale, i have a 1990 on my SAT, a 700 on my math level 2 sat subject test, and a 620 on mu literature subject test. Compared to many other students that are being admitted into Stanford, i am doing badly. However, I have heard that colleges and universities seek students who stand out from the crowd. And since i come from the east oakland flatland, from a poor area where crime is rampant and droput rates are high, i would say i very much stand out. Would anybody give me their opinion on wether i have a chance at Stanford, taking this into account?

Yeah of course you do - are you from a low-income family btw or do you just happen to live in a low-income environment? Other factors that generally “help” other than being a minority are low-income family, first person in family to go to college, things like that. If you’ve faced more hardships in life than the average applicant, then yes Stanford definitely does take that into account.

If you have not already done so, take a look at the Stanford application. It requires detailed recommendations and information from teachers, counselors, etc. It isn’t enough to look at your test scores, GPA, and any disadvantages you have overcome. They will take work, extra-curricular activities, leadership, and other things into consideration. But one thing I know: you have NO chance if you do not apply. (On a side note, I think you will have a good chance at the top UC’s) Good luck!

in your essay just talk about how you are trying to shake loose the shackles of the hood/street lol good luck i’m seeking acceptance into Stanford as well
