Intended major: Undecided, but leaning toward linguistics or French

Guaranteed to be nominated for Emory Scholars from my school
Applying to both Emory and Oxford.

Do I have a chance?
(When I toured Emory, my mother and I were literally the only people being given the tour/information session. Both the tour guide and admissions officer had me optimistic of my chances and I fell in love with the school. I don't even want to think of going anywhere else now.)

SAT subject tests aren’t required, but don’t take them unless you think you can score 700 or above. Your ACT is fine, though it might be borderline 25th percentile for Emory (not completely sure). Your EC’s are a nice addition to your app. I think you can get in RD to Emory with good essays/recs, and most definitely Oxford. However, my honest opinion is that you don’t have the best shot at the scholars program. It’s super competitive, and with the recent score reporting incident, I think Emory will try even harder to lock in kids with super high stats.

You should go to Emory! French is great!

Maybe you could consider applying Early Decision

I think your academics and ACT scores are in the ballpark. I would submit the higher ACT score. Your SAT score is not as good as your ACT score, so leave that aside.

The admissions website says SAT IIs “are encouraged, but not required”. Consider rainydays05’s advice, above.

Make sure Emory knows that your school only offers a limited number of AP classes.

Your extracurriculars look very good to me.

Being undecided is perfectly fine, and expected.

Sweat the personal statements/essays.

Show some interest in Emory and let them know they are your first choice. Consider doryphorus’ advice, above.

I really want you to come! The jazz band could really use more trombones! Seriously though, I think you’re on the right track. I’d considering going for the music scholarship, it’s generally recommended that you double major in music, but it’s actually quite doable (by that I mean practically everyone in the music program is a double major). Nail your essays, cause if you get to semi-finalist in the emory scholars program, you’re admitted. I’d probably agree that making it as a finalist would be challenging, but it could happen. Good luck!
