Hey guys, my son applied Early Action to Yale and was deferred. I was wondering if there are any students on the forum who have been deferred from schools like Yale, and if so, can you offer some advice on how to increase one's chances for admission come April? I would appreciate any advice you can offer us. Thanks.

The link entomom provided has some good advice. My son applied RD last year and was one of close to 1,000 who were waitlisted. He decided to make a trip to campus afterwards and while there was able to set up an appointment to meet with the Adcom. He met briefly with the counselor and reiterated his desire to attend and love of the school.

He followed up with an e-mail after he got back and detailed accomplishments that occurred after his original application was sent in. He was eventually called off the waitlist and is a current freshman. Did any of his follow-up help? I don’t know but at least he let Yale know that he was still interested in attending even though he wasn’t accepted the first time.

Forgot to add, D2 followed up with a supplemental LOR from an employer to give a different POV from her teacher evaluations.
