Thanks alot

yeah i second this

i only heard to stay away from mass violence ihum

PWR: Paul Bator is good, though I haven't looked at a schedule to see if he's teaching anything this year.

I had Paul Bator and I wasn't crazy about him. His class was interesting, but it did nothing for my writing.

hmm...does anyone have suggestions for easy pwr courses? I'm not much of a writer

does anyone have input about these IHUMs:
-the fate of reason
-art and ideas
-epic journeys, modern quests
-approaching religion
-world archaeology
which is the most interesting? and which ones are easy/hard? what kinds of things do they ask on the final exams?

i heard that fate of reason was easy and had relatively not a lot of reading...i also heard to stay away from approaching religion...

i would also like to hear input about world archeology...

I don't know that fate of reason was especially easy. It wasn't hard, and it's true it didn't have much reading, but the reading we did have tended to be (not surprisingly) a bit dense. Hussain is an amazing prof, and I don't know anything about the other prof. When I took the class I loved it, although now Bobonich won't be teaching it this year apparently so it might not be the same.

As a non-Stanford student I can't comment on his teaching, but Ian Hodder is one of THE authorities in archaeology. I can't believe he is teaching freshmen!

thats how much stanford loves us!

why have you heard to stay away from the mass violence IHUM?? is it because of the workload or what??

anyone know if Ryan Zurowski gives out lots of work?

I've heard that World History of Science and Mass Violence is really hard from another freshman. Can anyone testify to this? I kinda want to do World History of Science

Also, anyone know anything about the Epic Journey's, Modern Quests IHUM and the TF's in it? (Sabrina Ferri, Marisa Galvez, and Daniel Medin)

Also, to anyone considering taking world history of science, steer well clear of Molly McCarthy as your TF. I had her during the fall for the Civil War IHUM and she doesn't give A's on papers.

stay away from Alice Petty (World archaeology)
Marisa Galvez is pretty good; she taught "Sex: Its Pleasures and Cultures" in the fall.

Does anyone know how is the fate of reason graded? Is there a final exam?

I took the Utopia one in the fall and the extra credits really helped me. Anyone know any winter ihums that also give out extra credits?

When the winter prof taught Fate of Reason two years ago, he covered the material for the spring and we had two papers during the quarter and then a final. He gave us a list of about 150+ terms and questions that might be covered, that basically covered everything we discussed in the texts. I think most/all questions were from the list.

Also...why is World History of Science so difficult? Is it really difficult or is it because most people taking it are techies? Are the papers graded harsher?

that depends on your tf. As I said before, avoid Molly McCarthy (a world history of science TF), she's a harsh grader.
