PS. The most reachy schools (that aren’t under 20% admit) that seems to give us the best EFC were Davidson and Berea. The best deal would be do to CC to SDSU. The school that I think seems to “fit” my son, Rose Hulman, is out of reach financially. Mudd is my sentimental favorite but very doubtful my son will end up being competitive enough and it’s very intense. However, schools like that understand 1) quirky 2) other abledness 3) give more personalized attention. My son does best if he can have access to professors to ask questions and pick their brains. He’s doing well advocating for himself so far in the smaller sized CC classroom.

One thing that may change the financial aid calculations in your favor is going from 1 to 2 students in college (of course, that ends after the first one graduates).

Thought I would follow up on this thread. My son did end up taking the accelerated trig class. Every day has been a struggle to get up but he’s done it. Tomorrow is his last class. He’s got an 89.5 right now. A good final will get him an A. I’m really proud of him!

And my dh decided against retiring, so finances will be the same as before.

Said son also got a 215 on PSAT so hoping for an SAT in the 2150-2250 range in January. We shall see. Breaking the 700 mark in math is the goal!
