Seeking Advice

Hello all,

I am posting this thread to get a better understanding of how realistic my goals are. Please keep in mind that I do not expect the educational endeavors that I plan on engaging in to be easy. I am simply trying to see if anyone out there has been in, or is in, a similar situation to the on that I am in.

Let me start off by telling you my academic record, thus far. I am finishing off my junior year. My current gpa is 2.26 weighted. I took the SAT in May and scored 1600/2400. There are many reasons for my horrible high school transcript. I am not blaming my academic failure on anyone or anything. It is my fault that I now must seek an alternative road to get to where I want to end up in life.

Anyway, My academic goals are probably similar to very many young people across the country. I hope to one day become a lawyer. I do not know which type of law I would practice. I feel that this is not something that I need to be worrying about at this point in time. Anyway, I am planning on attending MiddleSex Community College (or any other community college in MA) and transfer out. I am not sure on how many years one needs at a community college to transfer out. I am also not sure which schools I would be able to transfer into. If anybody could offer some insight on the details of transfering out of community college then that would be great. Also, if anyone has transfered out of community college I would love to hear how you are doing now and if you think it set you back at all on reaching your goals.

If you got a 2400 then I think you could get into a decent in-state school and then transfer to an even better school.

Blakebengals- I am not sure if you misread my post or not. I got a 1600/2400, not a 2400/2400.

“I took the SAT in May and scored 1600/2400”- I thought you already got a 2400?

No. I guess I was being way too specific when I said 1600/2400. I meant it as I got a total of 1600 points out of 2400. What I should have said was “I scored a 1600.”

Sorry about that, my fault. Not yours.

oh ok, but still 1600 isn’t bad, since the average is supposedly 1500

Do well for 2 years at your CC and you will have your choice of many colleges. Many CC’s have agreements with state schools making transfers easy but almost all colleges accept transfers

Are you 100% sure about going to CC? There are state schools which you could probably apply to right now and have a reasonable chance at acceptance. Someone at my school with a 2.1 GPA and 27 ACT was accepted by University of Arizona. Granted, his ACT is probably equivalent to a high SAT score than yours, but you still have decent chances at making it to a school like that.
