Seeking arbitary opinons about ed chanes to eng (chance me!!!!)

Oh man have i become obsessed with cornell engeering. Well iv done chance threads beforebut its getting down to the real deal and i really wanna make this one count.I know u guys arent adcoms or whatever but most of u seem to have a pretty good idea how it goes.. So honestly whohere is ready to give me my chances down to three decmial places?

GPA-our school doesnt rank and doesnt giveletter grades, got a
92UW, and a 95W
IM probably around rank 50 somthing outta 600. My GPA is a huge upward trend

8th grade-86UW 89W (only the honors cources went on the transcript)
9th grade-88UW 92W
10th- 90UW 96W
11th- 94UW 101W

We have IB at our school, so im a full diploma guy, but i take aps too
physics b-5
stat-5
comp sci AB-5
comp scia-5
pschy-5
us hist-4

Sats-740M,690R,720W(2150), im retakingin october, i know this is coky and pointless to say but my score will go up at least 50 points

Sat 2s 800 physics, 770 m2c,740m1c, 640 chem(ewk, think it will hurt alot?)

next year sched, ap/ib calc BC HL, IB phsyics HL, ib eng HL, ib history HL, ib/ap comp sci SL, ib econ sl, ib span sl

EC(my weak point)
IV never had a job, i dont play a sport or instrument, and iv done little volunteering work (library 30 hours)

Im involved in a bazillion clubs(math team, computer science club, sci olymiad, ect on and on)

Myessay will be about my summer research experience in which i spent this summer 350 hours in a computer science lab, doing research for an intel paper.

My recs will probably be good

Sooooooo whatddja think?

bumbedity bumbpiedty bump bump!

Probably very little shot, have some good back ups. I don't see you getting in.

darn really, can u be more albrit on that, is it a 13.284% chance or like a 26.835% chance the whole thing is really stressing me out

*elaborate, hmmm what the hell was i on? some sort of bad spelling drug i guess

Well, if you want to get into specifics:

Although you have an A/A- type average, your rank of 50/600 does not put you in good standing for Ivy League admissions. They say be in the top 10%, but realistically they are looking for top 5% or above

In the ED applicant pool, they look especially close at test scores. Yours, while solid, still do not meet the standards compared to those you'll be competing against. It is to the adcoms advantage that they accept those with the highest test scores in the ED pool to better increase their own statistics

The AP/IB actually doesn't look half bad, depends on your senior year schedule, the tougher the better (I'm not familiar with the IB program)

The fact that you have little volunteer hours wouldn't hurt you if you were doing something else important with your time, but since I don't see anything you've stated really fly out at me, I have to wonder...

Stating that you are in a bazillion clubs is EXACTLY the opposite of what colleges want. This may hurt you the most. Colleges don't want to see a laundry list of activities with limited involvement in each, but rather a few ECs where you truly show your passions. If you are in a ton of clubs, and are the president of each, that is a different story, but from the looks of things, I'd say your involement looks superficial at best

Internship: This you'll have to milk it for all its worth

Listen, I don't mean to sound overly critical, but I think it would be a waste of time if I just wrote "You'll do great, I think your chances are awsome." I might come off as a cynic but really, I'm just being honest. I hope this helps, and I truly wish you luck if you do decide to do Cornell ED.

30.789% chance

Wow halopen that is honestly the best and most throughout reply to a chances thread i have ever seen. EVery things u said rings true to me.

Yeah, my schedule for senior year is going to be perhaps the hardest schedule any1 has every taken. Im taking 8 full IB classes, now seeing as how u are unfamilliar with ib, thatnumber might not seem significant to you but i can assure (im the only one attemping such a thing in my school) it is amazingly difficult.

I do plan to milk the internship, 350 hours is a lot, i literally spend everyday from 8am to 6pm working on my project.

And when i say i have a bizzilion clubs... i do, but everysingle one is related to engeneering. And i am the prez or vice prez of three of these clubs. So i am dedicated to them

Well, that sounds alright then. As long as you make an effort to show your passion for engineering, you'll be fine.

"Probably very little shot, have some good back ups. I don't see you getting in."

I think he has a better shot than ^that^. He seems to have a big passion for engineering and Cornell, which is very helpful in admissions. The recommendation and essay from the internship could help if utilized well. He also shows a good upward trend (especially because the toughness of the classes and him taking the hardest work load at his school). I do think he has some sort of a chance...but I can't classify it...haha just kidding, it's 37.216 (I rounded it from 37.2156 to help you...ur welcome.)

thx much figgy

I think you have a solid chance, but this is coming from a person with currently mediocre stats. Does anyone know what's considered the lowest SAT score that you could get into Cornell engineering with? On the engineering site it says that 75% get 720-800 in math, and roughly 50% get 700+... I'm predicting that I'll get around a 2150-2200... will those like really hurt me?

Yea I'd say you have a fair shot at Cornell ED. (although I ain't no expert)
You got decent scores and yeah your ECs gonna hurt a bit, but.. not too bad.
Good Luck!

To km7: it matters wat is on the rest of ur app
