seeking help- child with unsympathetic parents

My point was that you’ve made it sound like unless you’ve got some money you can’t apply to other colleges even, because your parents won’t give you the funds to pay application fees, etc. Without a job of some sort you are well and truely stuck because you have no options.

Flipping burgers (or washing dishes) isn’t a lifestyle…it’s a means to a PAYCHECK which is a means to having more say over your own life.

The thing is that you need to be willing to work any job you can find and learn what you can from it…and if you don’t like that particular job then you still work it while you are looking for a different job.

So often I hear kids say, “I don’t know what I want to do because what if I choose the wrong thing and I hate it?”

I always tell them the same thing…if you end up in a field you don’t like the training/education you got for that field isn’t wasted. You’ve learned several things: What you DON’T want to do for the rest of your life AND you’ve also learned a skill that will enable you to get a job to make money to make a different lifestyle possible. You can’t go into ANY job thinking that you don’t want to do it. You need to go into every job thinking, ‘What can this job teach me while I’m getting paid?’
