My son is a high school Junior and decided some time ago that he wants to major in Physics in college. So now we're researching schools. We live in Pennsylvania and would prefer an in-state school (not as expensive as out-of-state).

Can anyone suggest schools with very good programs in Physics?

If you’re looking for cheap in-state options, Pitt and Penn State certainly come to mind.

Carnegie Mellon, Bucknell, Allegheny, and Franklin & Marshall are excellent options among the privates. Penn and the Quaker consortium are worth a look if his stats are good enough, of course.
