Seeking some advice

Hi, I am currently a first-year student at Syracuse University. I have entertained the idea of transferring to a UC school after my sophomore year here. At the end of this year I anticipate a 3.8 or so GPA. I will have 60+ credits after my second year, but could use some advice. I am considering doing a summer term at American University of Paris. Do you think that this would increase my chances to be accepted, and do you recommend that I include summer courses as future transfer-credits? (I am mainly considering this program to perfect my French) Also, after Berkeley and LA, which UC school would you recommend for majoring in something like languages or literatures? Thanks.

I’ve heard some pretty good things about UCSB’s graduate French program…not sure, though.

Anyone else?

Daniel90 - It wouldn’t hurt to go to the university in Paris. It would only benefit you if the work you did there was transferrable. If your prediction is correct about your GPA and credits, and if you have some good EC’s then you might have a chance. Although transfers from an out of state college to a UC is very slim. It really depends on your major on how selective it is. Even with a high GPA and all, it is still hard to transfer from an out of state due to the priority given to residents.

For the colleges recommended UCLA and UCB definantly are for literature. I don’t know too much about lanugage but I’d take into consideration about UCSB for it.

I think you should just transfer to AUP. I love it here and a lot of the study abroad kids actually do end up doing that in the long run, funny enough.

I mean, in any case, if you want to learn French, the best way to do it is to actually live where it’s spoken…
