Was waitlisted at Bowdoin, U Chicago, Vanderbilt, Williams.
Was rejected at Claremont McKenna, Northwestern, Pomona, WashU.
I’m 1/9 so far
I’m into a safety that I wouldn’t mind going to already so don’t worry about me, just thought it was weird as my test scores and grades were fine (34 ACT, 3.9 gpa), and my ECs and essays were pretty good too in my opinion.
Anyone else in the same boat?
What is the likelihood of getting off at least one waitlist?
I’ll update this thread when I get more decisions.
The colleges you listed are “reaches for everyone”. So, no, it’s not surprising. Roll of the dice… you were unlucky.
But there are still a few colleges you’re waiting on, right?
And you got into the HOnors College at your safety I suppose - which is?
Are all the colleges left + the safety affordable for your parents?
@MYOS1634 Have almost a full ride at Washington & Lee. All the colleges left except for one will be affordable if I get in, however, all of them are, like the rest, are super selective (Ivies and comparable schools).
Haha, same. I’ve decent score for these schools(33, 3.8) though obviously not the best and decent ECs with leadership.
I’ve gotten rejected from: Northwestern,Vanderbilt, Emory(got into Oxford though), Duke, ULCA and there are a couple Ivies I know I got rejected from(I’ll get them tomorrow).
I’ve gotten waitlisted at:WashU, UChicago(right now my number one choice so but chances are slim with waitlist
I’ve gotten into:UMich-AnnArbor. UIUC, UIC and UC San Diego and Oxford @Emory.
I feel a little bummed out because I was hoping for a chance at some of the top twenties and I didn’t get any…still have Johns Hopkins and Rice and Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and Dartmouth…but there’s no use in waiting for them.
Maybe if I acutally visited the colleges and showed any interest, I might have gotten in…or maybe if I did early decision/action…Well, good luck to you with any decisions you have left.
I feel ya! I learned that you can never predict college admissions…I got rejected by my “safety” schools to my surprise. I thought I would get accepted into Scripps but I got rejected. I got accepted into a more selective liberal arts college…??? And I always thought that I would get into Emory (around 27% acceptance rate), but apparently this year, they received 30% more applicants than they have ever received and the acceptance rate fell down to almost 8%!!! I got waitlisted there, and some other places… I honestly don’t really know how to feel about this situation. Kind of depressing, but at the same time, I don’t want to go to colleges that don’t “want” me as much.
Yep…
I applied through the commonapp with a fee waiver so I applied to about seven schools I really cared about and then some liberal arts schools that I kind of considered that had great financial and I had already completed the commonapp.
I’ve been rejected/waitlisted at the schools I actually cared about and the colleges I applied that I didn’t really care either way if I got in or not I’ve been accepted to. I seriously can’t believe it. I’m just scared to hear back from schools because I actually care about some of them so I just feel like I’m doomed to be rejected because I care. haha.
Nice to know I’m not alone…I guess…currently on 4 waitlists, 1 rejection, and accepted to safety. Only 2 more to go plus a conservatory…3.93, 2340 SAT, National AP Scholar, All-State Horn…
Similar situation here… I know that I applied to universities that are reaches for everyone, but with a 4.0 uw/34 ACT, varied extracurriculars, leadership positions…ect, I’m feeling a bit down right now!
I was accepted to WUSTL (and my safety Miami Ohio w/ a scholarship) and I am so grateful, but I feel like it’s a mistake after this week!
Waitlisted at Emory, Vanderbilt, and Lehigh (didn’t show any interest so understandable)
I feel your pain. Rejected from 4, waitlisted at 3, and accepted to two (one of which is a safety, and the other is too expensive to go to). I’m waiting on 8 schools now. (6 ivies, Gtown, Tufts) should be fun…
Seems like it’s a matter of the wrong expectations being set.
Folks, if you applied to 10 schools each with a 10% admit rate and admissions was completely random, on average, you would get in to 1.
Now, admissions isn’t completely random, but while you’re not automatic rejects, most of the applicants to these schools aren’t no-hopers and have stats just as strong as you so unless you are a recruited athlete, top 10 in something in the US, won something major, URM, or have some other hook (preferably several), the odds aren’t very good. In fact, they’re bad.
And the matter of fact is that a near full ride at W&L is a great opportunity. WashU is a great opportunity. UMich, Oxford@Emory, and UIUC&UCSD in some fields are great opportunities.
@PurpleTitan@Loganator I would most likely have almost a full ride at the Ivies if their net price calculators are accurate. Family income isn’t very high.
