Seen any good movies lately?

^ really enjoyed Call Me By Your Name…agree there should be some awards for this film. Parts were magical, and found myself thinking about it days after viewing. But also think could have been edited down a bit…there were slowww parts that didn’t add much. It really felt like every bit of its 132 minutes

re: Lady Bird, wife & I both immediately concluded that it must be Barnard.
-There’s only a few schools in NYC somebody from far away would apply to.
-Light blue school color on admissions letter (NYU is purple, Fordham is red)
-Columbia would be tough admit for her based on what we surmised.

Well, the movie showed a rejection letter from Columbia, so that’s clearly out, but more evidence that she would likely have applied to Barnard.

We all watched The Big Sick together on Thursday. General verdict: disappointing for various reasons.

I really enjoyed The Big Sick.

I was looking forward to The Big Sick (mostly after reading about it here on CC) and didn’t like it at all. It was a depressing life before the romance, during the sickness, and after. No one seemed happy with life.

I really liked it.

We liked the Churchill movie.

re#946 I think I thought maybe it was a deferral rather than a rejection. But truth is, I don’t remember.

I had hoped for more with The Big Sick. It was OK but really not as wonderful as I had hoped and other reviewers had thought.

@JustaMom I love that color. I don’t have the money to go to the hairdresser, so I play with mine at home. I used Lavender Splat in June that came out a deep purple. I did the front 2 inches of my hair - from brow to ear line. My hair is almost shoulder length, but I have to pay to have the slight curls added (lucky you). It has been growing out slowly, now it is almost fuschia.

I found a new hair color called Arctic Fox that has lavender, I think I might try it next and make it a very, very, soft color and not overpowering like I currently have. I work for the government and boy, the first time I came in with color in my hair, they looked at me like I had two heads. When I go to meetings, it can put me at a slight disadvantage, but luckily enough (?) I think my personality makes them forget the color and they start to listen. I still get people that want to judge, but I don’t pay any attention to them. I get a lot of people that stop me to say I love your hair color. Both young and old- it’s kind of weird.

D & I both enjoyed I, Tonya.

All the Money in the World. Thumbs up! Christopher Plummer (replaced Kevin Spacey) was terrific, as was Michelle Williams. Hope they both nab the Golden Globes for which they are nominated. I did have to cover my eyes for THAT scene…it was very intense and disturbing. My pulse was racing. Both H & I went home and googled the Getty’s…fascinating and sad family. PSA: It is a Long Movie (2:12)…and there were 19 minutes of previews…

Just saw Molly’s game. Though they’ve taken some liberties, the basic story and characters are true. I won’t ruin anything, brnifntounwant to know who the “mr x” actor is, PM me. They gave only one hint. They don’t tell you in the movie.

The Greatest Showman was fantastic!

Ack for typos on my phone! That should say "but if you want to know " who the actor is…
Also, in “Molly’s game” they changed the term used for a rich but not-very-good poker player. They called them a fish. The real term is whale. Not sure why they did that.

My D, her boyfriend, and a friend of theirs were here visiting and decided to watch old movies. They downloaded (think it was Amazon) All About Eve. It’s an oldie–1950–but it’s great film. Bette Davis is wonderful as is Ann Baxter. If you’ve never seen, I’d recommend it.

D and I saw “Downsizing” last night. I have never really been a Matt Damon fan, and this film didn’t change that… I have to say the film did not even remotely resemble it’s official trailer. It was WAY too long… and way too philosophical/deep-thinking… Oy! We were in the mood for a comedy, and were expecting something much more amusing. About half an hour before it ended, my kid texted me “Mom, PLEASE can we just go now? This is the worst and longest movie ever”. We did stay for the whole thing, but… I’m not sure why. We agreed that we should have seen the Churchill film instead. :frowning:

@rosedust I have to watch Dunkirk again on a big screen!

Just watched Marjorie Prime and this one is definitely a movie to watch on a cold rainy day so you can focus on it. It’s intriguing with a twist at the end. Well acted. Made me think that this isn’t too far fetched to happen IRL in the near future

The Post was great. Jumanji was better than I expected.
