Select a major or go undecided???

Okay so first of all I want to state that i would like to go to a UC school, preferably UCSD, UCSB or UCI. I am having trouble deciding if i should pick a major or go in undecided. I would love to major in Human biology, Bio-psychology or just the general Biological studies. Most of these schools have these majors as impacted which means they are more limited than most. My stats just barely meet the averages of the schools so I want to make sure i hinder myself in no way. I have heard that going in undecided is terrible and looked down upon. But I have also heard that it can help since you'd be in a less competitive pool than if you declared a biology major. So which one is true???

As I said in a similar post, when I had a conversation with a college coach (who used to be an admissions officer) this past summer, he said that it’s a definite flashing light when an applicant puts “undecided” as his/her major. The reason being that it shows a certain lack of direction and makes the college admissions wonder what it is you really want from their school.

It’s different at every school, but I would still recommend putting down at least general biological studies. I’m sure you’ll have the opportunity to change that or make it more specific once you get to the school. In any case, good luck with your applications ! =)
