I saw a thread earlier about colleges emailing you and how this translated into their interest in you. So on a similar note i was wonder what getting a VIP or Select application from a school means in terms of their interest of you. I ask this mainly because i've gotten about 15 of these and don't want to waste time applying to schools if i've got no shot. Thanks.

It's Marketing 101. Plain and simple. You court some colleges, some colleges come courting for you.

They want to pique your interest by giving you special attn. It's likely that you fall within a range of "qualified" but certainly there isn't a guarantee.

For certain, all colleges want great applicants. You'll probably find that at some of the schools who are entertaining you will have HUGE admit rates for top scoring/GPA applicants. If you possess those, then of course -- you'll be likely admitted.

Just an email or a mailer isn't a sign of significant interest however. Some colleges have "priority applications" or "special consideration" programs whereby they hope to offer admissions earlier in the cycle in order to "lock in" (at least put themselves first in your mind) the top candidates. Have you gotten anything like that?

Ya i've gotten like 15 of these select applications.
