When I applied as a Semifinalist, I had indicated my first choice.

In early December, I was accepted into that institution through the Early Decision plan. Because I had already indicated my first choice institution, I thought I did not have to report it again, and did not send any additional notices to NMSC when I got accepted.

Even if you did not technically change my first choice school, does it matter that I did not report my acceptance? I don't think I was included in the college-sponsored award...

Ugh, my counselor who helped me through this process went on maternity leave about two months ago... I don't know who to ask about this!!! Help!!!

kn0960…If you’re saying you indicated a first choice university using NMSC’s form when you submitted your NMSF package last fall, you didn’t need to do anything else. There is no requirement to notify NMSC that you were accepted at that university. You should call NMSC to make sure they show that university as your school of choice to confirm they did receive the selection though.

You also need to check with the FA office at your university. Are their NMF scholarships guaranteed or competitive? Do they have “unofficial” NMF scholarships or just the “official” one? Have you received your final FA offer from your school?

I can’t say for sure what will happen, but NMSC should be willing to work with you since it sounds like you made your first choice selection early and didn’t change it. Call ASAP though (NSMC and your school) and hopefully it’s not too late to work something out.
