selected for verification

this is what it says.

then it says

WHAT YOU MUST DO NOW
and all it basically says is that if you and have parents have filled your 2009 taxes now go back and change your info to match the 2009 taxes.

so all i have to do is update it when we file our taxes? or will i still have to send in papers to the school?

You will have to send documents to your school if and when they ask you too.

We have been verified several times. Most of those times our FAFSA data was not estimates but actual filed returns.

Schools must verify 30% of all the FAFSAs they receive. Some verify all those flagged with an * plus enough more to make it 30%. Some have their own criteria for selecting who to verify (they can choose who/how as long as they verify 30% - they do not have to verify the *d FAFSAs). Others will verify 100% (my son’s school does this).

You have almost a 1 in chance of being verified. As long as your data is accurate it is nothing to worry about. Just send it quickly when asked by your school or your aid award will be delayed. But don’t sent it if you are not asked for it.

FYI - my daughter’s school posts on their website when they require verification documents - they have never mailed anything to us. My son’s school it is always by mail. So check your school’s policies.

Thanks very helpful but I didn’t see a * anywhere

Usually there is a * by your EFC if you have been automatically selected for verification. Unless that has changed this year.

Either way - it is your school that officially informs you when/if they are verifying you.
