Selecting a laptop

I’m starting business school this coming fall and need a new laptop. My school is advising me to avoid a Mac at all causes. What PC is the best on the market right now?

I don’t want a chromebook either…

I’m looking to spend less than $1100 and need an optical drive for sure.

I’d like it to be fast, powerful and to have a good battery life. I don’t really care about perfect screen quality as long as it’s not awful.

Also, no hybrids. I had a tablet hybrid and hated it.

Thanks!

Well mac is basically ruled out, at least any of the new ones since you can’t get one with an optical drive at that price point. Many schools, business in particular, advise against Macs because software isn’t always made for the operating system. In reality, I had a pc and mac throughout college and ended up just using my mac because it was lighter, easier to use, wasn’t as loud (my pc sounded like a 747 during class), and I never had any compatibility issues. I’m not sure what you would need an optical drive for since nearly every piece of software is offered digitally.

Maybe look into a Dell or Asus? I’m not really that familiar with the pc market anymore.
