Selecting Classes

Aargh I am so confused about selecting classes on DegreeWorks!

I have the following AP credits:

World History (5), 6 history credits
US History (5), 6 history credits
Language/Composition (5), 6 Frosh Comp credits
German (4), 8 credits

Government, 3 credits (Social Behavioral Science)
Environmental Science, 3 credits (GEO 105)
Literature (if you get at least a 4, then you get 3 Lit credits)

But I don’t know how/where to plug them in, or what freshman classes I can use them to replace. I have sophomore standing, but I have no idea what classes I can/should select to register for. I also wanted to take an honors seminar, but I don’t know where to find them on DegreeWorks.

I’m an English major and in the Honors college, and I don’t want to miss out on any requirements for either one of them.

Have you seen this table? It shows the UA course equivalent for any given AP exam/AP score.

[Credit by Examination < The University of Alabama](http://courseleaf.ua.edu/introduction/academicpolicies/creditbyexamination/)

As you plan your curriculum, do so as though you’ve already taken the course(s) covered by your AP score. This includes credit for fulfilling the corresponding Core Designation (e.g. FA, FL, HU) associated with each course equivalent.

All you pros out there please correct me if I’ve misrepresented any of this.

Also, if Degree Works is giving you fits, rough things out on paper or in a spreadsheet.

malanai, I haven’t seen that table before. But I read through it, and it’s SO helpful! Thank you!

It may not be useful for you to use DW right now. Just use Pencil and Paper, your major req’ts, the Core Curriculum guideline, and the AP credits grid.

World History (5), 6 history credits
US History (5), 6 history credits … (sequence done)
Language/Composition (5), 6 Frosh Comp credits … (FC done)
German (4), 8 credits … (FL done)

Government, 3 credits (Social Behavioral Science) …(SB done)
Environmental Science, 3 credits (GEO 105)
Literature (if you get at least a 4, then you get 3 Lit credits) … (I think you get 3 HU credits, not Lit credits)

So, you need a math and some sciences, right?

You need a Fine Arts

You probably should start with a Lit class, too.

Yes, I do need a math and some sciences. What exactly is “GEO”? Is that a science category?

Okay, this helps a LOT. Thank you!

GEO…where are you seeing that? Is that Geography? Geology? It probably is a science if in has a N designation.

GEO 101 The Dynamic Earth N

GEO 102 The Earth Through Time N
GEO 104 Hazardous Earth N
GEO 105 Sustainable Earth N
GY 101 Atmospheric Processes and Patterns N
GY 102 Earth Surface Processes N

Oop, I meant “GEO 105”, which would count as a science (?).

Geological Science 105. Counts as N (natural science). Your AP Env Science covers this.

Oh okay. Thanks!

Malanai is right…

Environmental Science 3 GEO 105 4 N

So your AP credit already gives you credit for this class. You still need 4 more N credits, so choose something else that has the N designation.
