Selecting final Bio course, better for MCATs??

Hello all,

D1 has taken Molecular Bio and is now trying to decide between the following two courses. Do you think it matters which one she chooses as far as being more helpful for taking the MCAT, or should she just pick the one that she's most interested in? Thanks for any input.

Physiological Systems: Regulation and control in biological systems, emphasizing human physiology and principles of feedback. Biomechanical properties of tissues emphasizing the structural basis of physiological control. Conversion of chemical energy into work in light of metabolic control and temperature regulation.

Biology of Reproduction: Introduction to reproductive biology, with emphasis on human reproduction. Development and hormonal regulation of reproductive systems; sexuality, fertilization and pregnancy; modern diagnosis and treatment of reproductive and developmental disorders; social and ethical issues.

From the perspective of an old History major:

Gee. They both sound so nice. Is there a door #3? lol. I dunno, but I might rather have my skin pulled off with a pair of pliers than take that first one.

D. has taken Animal Physiology. She is taking MCAT in 1 week. She had a lot of Bio classes, which is helpful, since Orgo is 25% of Bio section, the rest 75% is Bio. She does not like Orgo, she is lucky. My quess is #1. ALL Bio classes at her school are exceptionally hard, including the very first semester of intro class, which she was reguired to take despite of 5 in AP exam. I cannot say that Physiology was harder than any others.

cur,
Yes, that’s exactly why I’m asking! D1 is an English major and is willing to take the harder physio course if it will be better prep for the MCAT, but would rather pass if it’s a toss up.

Miami,
Thanks for the info. Word on the street is that physio is harder D1s school, but given her relative lack of bio courses if it’s the better chioce, she’ll take it.

sort of on topic, how much of the Enviro-Plant/Animal Kingdom side of bio is on the bio MCAT?

^Close to 0. Evolution is on it but not much in terms classification except as it pertains to human disease processes. The focus is on the foundational sciences for the study of medicine. What do I care that rats are more closely related to humans than horses (unless doing research)?

Physio is going to be the more helpful of the two courses mentioned.

FWIW, I actually enjoyed physio, even if the course required a ton of memorization. The subject matter was actually pretty interesting, and from what I’ve heard it does help to learn it.

Physio would probably be marginally more helpful, but the reproduction class sounds more fun.
